What type of disc is used for retail DVD's? Or does it vary from company to company?

I see, thanks so much I was wondering because ALL retail DVD's play on all machines. Burned one are hit and missed. I was thought I was doing something wrong and if there was something different I could do. Thanks a lot.Duracell said:
@metalhedplate you need to make sure you follow the guidelines of our tutorials to the letter for making a FULLY compliant DVDr 
Also a good quality brand of MEDIA can take a big part in whether it plays back in one system or MOST if not ALL systems, take the advice of our gurus when they suggest a quality media and try stick with it
Yes it may be more expensive but in the long run if you are gettin loads of incompatible disks the cost of media is irellivant if you get one that works
On the other end of the scale it could be down to the DVD player being incompatible /old outdated or in some cases are found to not allow playback of DVDrs at all
