rename vob to avi

I rip 5 movies with cladDVD XP1.3 as one big file for each movie.
Then i rename the vob file to avi (The Others.vob to The Others.avi). I can play these movies with my windows media player normal.
Then i try to convert them with Canopus ProCoder 1.01.35.0 and it works! (i can convert at any format i want mpeg1/2 ...).
Now my question: Why with CCE i can not add these avi s and then convert them?
Is a way to make it possible?

It is a very easy way to convert a dvd to vcd or svcd. As i wrote i need only to rip my movie and then a converter. It works 100% with canopus ProCoder but not with CCE. (CCE is faster)

For everyone he has Canopus Procoder and wants to test it:
1- Rip the DVD with Clad DVD XP as one big file with your selected audio stream
2- Rename the .vob file to .avi
3- Open Canopus ProCoder and add the avi file, select Target and then Add Target
4- Make yoursettings
5- Now you are ready to convert!
:)
Any comments and suggestions are welcome!

i think so, cladDVD is just a ripper like DVDecrypter, aktually is not better than DVDecrypter! I tried with cladDVD because is simple to use, just select the audio stream and how to split and that´s all. And i believe is faster than DVDecrypter, but the second has more options!

I prefer smartripper.
just select stream processing and rip the audio track of your choice along with the chain of your choice.
Dont forget to remove macrovision!(if u want to back up to vhs later)

You can also rename the vob file as mpeg, Canopus ProCoder will add the mpeg file, but CCE not (that´s why i tried to rename as avi, in case CCE add it)

I see it like this:
1 - rip
2- svcd2avi
3- convert
What i am doing is just jumping step 2 , and with procoder you can convert to avi too, and any format you want(avi-divX, mpeg1/2, DV file, real, quick time, windows media...)
:)
It is very simple :D

or dvd2svcd

1-rip/convert/cut
2 burn
3.watch

procoder has better video output.
But isnt worth the time (to me).

Before u say quality is everything.......If it was u would be recording to dvdr! lol

You use what you prefer.
That is called choice.

subs

try this:

with subtitles:

install dvobsub
install canopus procoder

open the movie(avi,divx...etc)in canopus,
then dvobsub open automatical(write this way?)
your subtitle.(see the green arrow next of clock)
select svcd....etc.
in the encode tab you will see
your movie be encoded WITH subtitles.

it works!;)

to your original question... if you want to use CCE, you should convert the file with Canopus DV File Converter (you can find the file on on of the threads of the forum or on the canopus web site as well) and then it will work with CCE. I had the same probelm and the conversion worked.
Hope this helps.

@Denexo, this may come as a surprise to you but simply re-naming a VOB file (MPEG2 format) to AVI does NOT make it an AVI. As your CCE error message says "This is not an AVI", thats why ir wont load.

Procoder can load it because it does accept MPEG2 streams and doesnt use the extension (AVI or whatever) to determine the type of file. This is true for most programs.

@jorel, yes doom9 site is a wealth of information, but I sometimes wish they would climb down from their pedestal.

It don´t surprise me, i know that, just wanted to fake CCE.
But i see now i have to use Procoder, renaming as mpeg or avi! :)

With all my respect (mingled with admiration) I believe you have to refresh your tutorials. (Make these simpler)
Maybe I have the 1/3 from your knowledge on this subject (video) but I can successfully convert or rip or xxx my movies files with a few steps using just a couple of software. Dvd2svcd is nice software; I used it after you suggest it to me, but what the need for that if it not uses its own encoder? I mean if I have to use Tmpeg or CCE then I can do it direct.
I have tested almost all the rippers, encoders and converters I could found, but in my opinion from 100 only the 10 are good. I respect their job, but the authors don’t even know what HCI is, and changing a dll is far away to be software!
Now about renaming files, I know that renaming a vob file to avi, make this new file not an avi, but it works! Renaming a vob file to mpeg works too because the vob file is mpeg2. Renaming dat file from a video cd to mpeg works too because is an mpeg file! I never had a problem renaming and the worst thing can be is that you can not be able to play this file! So I don’t see the reason why should everyone convert using much software’s if he cans do this with two? And especially if these software’s are free! (For example: a ripper and Tmpeg)
I am not writing this against you so don’t misunderstand me. This is only my humble opinion!
Thank you reading these lines, I be happy reading your comments!
Ending with a smile: :)
