Registry problem

Today i tried ERD Commander 2002, with the built-in RegEditor u can edit only the Hkey_Classes_Root and Hkey_local_Machine keys, mine is in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ASVzzz\TheFly\data.
instead of ERDC you can try O&O's BlueCon XXL; it have also an command line based registry editor inclusive;
i think it's able to edit the USER key;
just go to the same source like scarecrow suggested for ERDC; ;)

tRIPS ON Registry.:D

VILLA21 when you write "I logged on as admin"
do you mean that the account is named "admin" and does "admin" has full control on the key you want to delete.

If this the case and you have the error when you try to delete the key "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ASVzzz\TheFly\data"
it seems there is a dependancy between the key and some other(s) key(s) somewhere in the registry.

Normally , the key "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ASVzzz\TheFly\data" might be also under the full control of system, and that's the reason why if it exists a dependancy between the key you want to delete and another one or maybe a dll or another system file, the system remains the first "full control" and forbid to delete the key you want to shoot.

If it is possible, attention it can be very dangerous for the stability of your system, you can try to suppress the system's full control permission on this key , and normally you might be able to delete the key if the account you are logged in has the full control permission on "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ASVzzz\TheFly\data".

You should first "ghost" your system disk, if it contains important datas such as your favorites, OE datas located in :
C:\Documents and Settings\your account\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{BLABLA ...}\Microsoft\Outlook Express
and
C:\Documents and Settings\your account\Application Data\Microsoft\Address Book

and some other important datas.

Think to an important thing, is this so vital to delete the key or is your system can remain as it is.

I thought I was a guru of the registry, one day I was annoyed by a key that has come inside the registry ( a spyware called NewDotNet ), and I found the way to delete the key modified by this bloody spyware , after that at the next reboot , my logical lan was totally out of order, and I had to format and install a clean system.

Try using regedt32 instead of regedit. Select the entry you want to remove, then go to the Security menu, Permissions and check "Allow, full control" if it is unchecked. Select Delete from the Edit menu and see what happens.

sorry to write that but your suggestions are outdated for XP,
launch regedt32 and this is regedit which appears,
search the security menu and this is a new way to set the permissions. I'm afraid of these remarks belong to the past ... NT4

This is done so for security reasons, but you can run the normal Windows regedit instead within ERD Commander (the regular way- start/run..."regedit"). Of course extreme care is needed when you run external programs via ERD Commander, but I have deleted in the past quite a few locked registry entries this way.

Try re-installing the software then use jv16 to uninstall it from the uninstall menu/uninstall.Does a better job than Add/Remove

@ Duracell, instead of ERDC you can try O&O's BlueCon XXL; it have also an command line based registry editor inclusive;
about the same with BlueCon, can"t see the entries under the user key...
