Ps2 mod chip needed?

Heya, i have made a backup of all ps2 games i own, onto suggested media with suggested applications.

But i can't get them to play on my silver V.10 PS2?

i mite be sounding dumb, but is a mod-chip essencial to make backups run on the console?

plz help?

in a word YES unless you use a flip top lid with a boot cd/dvd combination
