Problems with AOpen CD/RW CDW4850

Everytime i try to backup a cd, of any kind, it loses speed and usually buffer underuns or something like that

you select say "Write 8x" and it falls to about 3

this is using any burning program (Nero, Clone CD, EAC)

can someone please help me with this
