Problems installing XP Pro

Hi, i just installed a new 120GB hard drive on my compaq PIII...and then i installed winxp pro...everything went fine but then it said computer will restart, but when it came back on nothing happened, there is a cursor that keeps blinking on the top left corner of the screen, i waited for i a while but nothing happened so i restarted the comp, but still the same, the cursor keeps blinking at the top...any suggestions
 
It could be some incompatibility with ACPI management, are you using the Quickrestore cd or an independent WinXP?
 
OK first check for any BIOS updates with Compaq and reinstall XP from the start, if there are no updates or you have the current version then try this:

During the install process, when the on-screen message appears ?press F6 to install additional drivers for third party SCSI drivers or mass storage devices,? press F5 instead. When the screen appears giving you a choice between ?ACPI-PC? and ?standard PC? mode, select ?standard pc?.

This will disable the ACPI compatibility in windows.

Try booting from a DOS floppy and run fdisk; be sure that the HD has the 1st partition marked as Active. Or you can use a boot disk of Partition Magic if you have it.
