problem with sec.ide drives in asus M/B

I have an Asus M/B P4S533 and connected as sec. master and slave a CDRW PLEXTOR and a DVD Pioneer 116.
Notice that both of the drives work fine in other system.
The problem is that sometimes the drives don't recognize any CD.
I have to change the transfer mode in device manager in PIO mode to make them work fine but when i restart i have the same problem.I think that the problem is with the drivers of SIS chipset of the M/B.Anybody has a suggestion about this?
Can i use via4in1 drivers in a SIS chipset ?

I'd say double check your bios to make sure that it's set to auto-detect your ide devices. 2nd, I'd check the cable position in relation to the drive jumper settings. If drive is set to master but drive is connected to slave terminal on cable that might cause issues like that. 3rd, since your board is relatively new, you might want to flash the firmware on the drives. Other than this, you might want to check the mfg website for any compatibility issues.

NO! 4in1s are for VIA chipsets. Use the links Duracell provided for you for what chipset drives you need.

SO THIS IS F***ING UNBELIEAVABLE.
I TRIED ALL THESE ABOVE,NEW DRIVERS, NEW CABLES, PIO MODE ,DMA MODE BUT NOTHING.
AT LAST I PUT THE PIONEER DVD116 AS SEC.MASTER AND THE PLEXTOR AS SEC SLAVE, AND AFTER THAT EVERYTHING WORKS FINE.WHAT CAN I SAY!!!
THANKS FOR YOUR REPLY GUYS.

it's nice to hear your ATA drive problem is solved;

next step should be fixing the keyboard driver, to make your capslock switchable; :D

Hy JOHNKAMP
I have the same MoBo, I have 2 - 80gig Hard drives on the primery channel, and my DVD (Master) CD-Burner (Slave) on the sec/ry IDE. and did not have your problem. I am using Windows Xp home, and the problem I have, is when I click on properties on the sec/dry ide or the master I have no tab to set the PIO or DMA. I have no advanced settings Tab on the properties box.

Did not mean to sound serious, just poking a bit of fun. And yes it is sad to see so much wasted. but unfortunatly we have no control.

Hi Duracell,
I missread the origanal message. Done what you said and it was only after downloading the drivers that I realised that I had the wrong board. Mine is an Asus P4B533-E Raid with the Intel 845E chipset. I had installed the Intel Application Accelerator, and forgot that it is there you do these settings.
By the way what would be the advantages of setting this up as a raid. Could I still have partitions. I have 4 on each drive 20mb each partition, on the 2 80gb H/Ds. This is a computer that I built myself. I had waited for some time to get this board here in Ireland. Also I got 2 500mb Chips of DDR, (PC2100) but it will not let the computer start with the second one installed. There is no brand name on the chips, I was thinking that this might be the problem.

I'm surely not an RAID expert; in theory is RAID0 double read and write speed, because data will be splitted and simultaneously written to both HDDs; RAID0 is not really secure, if you lost one HDD, than all your data (from both HDDs) are gone;
also if you prepare your HDDs as RAID "stripe set", you will lost all stored data; and yes you can arrange virtual partitions/drives on a RAID stripe set;

Maybe someone will add a usefull link abaut RAID?

the modul is either faulty or incompatible to your MB
