Problem with Pioneer 105

I cant get Nero or Alcohol to recognise my 105 as a dvd writer! They see my plextor but will not allow me to write with my dvd.
I have created an image in alcohol with the 105 but cant write!
Any ideas??

@ glyndwr,

Perchance have you ensured that you have your Pioneer DVR-105 installed correctly. More to the point do you have the IDE Channel Master/Slave/CSEL jumpers set up correctly?

Can the OS see the drive, does it have a drive letter assigned to it?

Check that the PS is adecuate for the components you have in your case, also check for jumper settings, loose ribbon and power cables.

To be in the sure side, when flashing the drive try to do it under pure dos.

pioneer 105

i run a pioneer 105 with nero with just one problem it always tell me theres not enough room on the disk to burn a dvd but other programs work ok by the way there is a new update available from www.roxio.com this is not warez so i hope i dont get told off

regards

Update from Roxio for Nero???
Suffice to say that the last two builds (1020 and 1028) seem buggy as hell, in fact if you can find a working Nero version (for you, that is...) stick there.

It could be a conflict with previously installed,or outdated writing software.Sometimes installing or repairing the aspi layer will correct detection problems.

Many drives are shipped with outdated software that does not support the drives.Only an upgrade will help(usually). What OS are using btw?

NERO wont let you use the A o5 did your nero come bundled with the plexter if so this is the only burner nero will let you use until you buy the full version hope this helps

Thanks guy I will try your suggestions. I am using Windows ME.
I bought the burner second hand with no software. I am using an evaluation copy of Nero.
I have checked the connectors and jumpers and they are all ok.

@ glyndwr,

Have you ever previously had a Toshiba DVD-ROM installed in your computer prior to installing the Pioneer DVR-105?

If so, suggest thoroughly cleaning your Registry with a good “Registry Cleaner” similar to JV16 Power Tools and/or Registry Healer. Then after thoroughly cleaning your registry navigate to System Properties/Device Manager and remove the device that is suppose to be your Pioneer DVR-105 and then reboot and have your OS re-install the Pioneer DVR-105.

If you have never had a Toshiba DVD installed in your computer could you provide the exact Device Name and Firmware Revision that System Properties/Device Manager displays for the offending device. Also could you provide the Product Name and Model Number exactly as printed on the label sticker on the Pioneer DVR-105.

Coaster

Hey Woody, I have explained in the post above about the Pioneer.
I have bought a new Pioneer 105 and it is working fine.
I also bought a Liteon dvd rom drive which I cant get writing software to recognise.

You are confusing the hell out of us...;)

So you only have a Pioneer, and Liteon dvdrom?

Originally you said the Pioneer wasn't working right.

I want to try and copy on the fly, so what with dvd readers being so cheap at the moment I thought I would by this Liteon dvd reader.

I bought the Pioneer 105 through an auction on your sister board, when it arrived I shoved it in without examining it, It turned that this guy had sold me a Toshiba reader for £160!!!!!!

I have been in touch with him and he appologised and gave me my cash back. Today I went and bought a brand new 105 for £219.

So now I have a Liteon reader which wont read PS2 games and a Pioneer which is working great. I have already burned 2 games buy reading them into the hdd with the 105 then burning them back on to dvd.

The help I need now is to get this Liteon to beable to read
games.

Any ideas?
