Problem with Nero.....Freezing up

I have a problem with Nero. I'm using the newest version (5.5.9.17) and every time I try to burn a cd, it freezes itself after trying to write the leadin. (It gets to about 5% done) The program locks, and the only way to fix the problem is to reboot the computer. I've tried reinstalling Nero, and even using other older versions, but no luck. I've also tried with valid reg code and running it in demo mode, but no luck. I'm using Plextor 40/12/40 CD Burners, and they work fine in other programs. (such as burning cds from SoundForge or Windows) I do not have any other cd burning programs installed on the computer to cause any glitches. (such as Easy CD Creator) Any ideas or advice would be greatly apreciated. Thanx.

u say u can burn cds from windows?
U using xp?
If u are using the built in burning engine then u are using ez cremator in a way.
Disable it.
Its total crap.

I have and i can burn succesfully with: Nero, RecordNow Max, Win XP burning engine, (WMP9, Win Movie Maker 2), Sound Forge 6, Ulead MMC CD/DVD Plug-in, Movie jack 2.
Maybe is your settings, maybe something in your system? If you can write more details (since when and how, what.... ) then maybe we can help more!

If the problem is related to a bad serial number, then how would I erase the info from the registry to make nero work again? I like using nero, and if I can make it work again, that would be great. Also, if you have any other good burning programs to use, let me know. I mainly use it for making multiple copies of audio cd's from wav files (we produce music)

I have the same problem with Nero 5.5.9.17 (It gets to about 25 - 35% done, and not always, but only on DataCD) using Plextor 40/12/40 CD Burner & WinME. I think to a bug of the program, not at wrong serial number (i have the original CD of Nero), because the message of error is "the CD is used by InCD..." (but is it impossible, because I have disabilited InCD and DirectCD, at task manager). Easy CD Creator 5 Deluxe is better than Nero for me (excuse me daveml...but it's true....)
