Plextor px708a firmware

Hi, has anyone updated their 708a to either 1.02 or 1.03 F/W?
I'm currently running 1.01 without any problems, but looking at Plextor's
website they've made a few improvements regarding new media and write quality.
Trouble is, they never tell you if they've F*cked anything up in the process...
Something I found out the hard way with my Pioneer 104!

Any input appreciated

Just keep flashin` 'em m8! If they`re "official" updates then it`s down to the mighty Plextor. If anything goes awry then it`s their responsibility rather than yours... :)

MMMmmm maybe so but with the Pioneer they removed 2x writing with some media and you couldn't flash back (untill some-one managed to hack their
flash util---then it could take 40 mins plus to flash back)
Also some later f/w was worse write quality v 1.32 was piss poor. They rectified it in later f/w but they didn't send a cheque for my expensive coasters.

Just wondered if anyone had experienced any noticable differences.

Regards

Nick

How do you guys like your Plextor PX-708A burners?

I'm in the market for a DVD burner--my first, actually. I was wondering what you guys thought of your Plextor PX-708A burners, since I was considering purchasing one. Do you guys like it? It seems to have the fastest DVD+R burning speeds on the market right now...

If you guys don't like Plextor's model, what would you recommend for a DVD burner?...

Thanks for your input!...

Has anyone had problems with the Plextor PX-708A?

I was curious, as well, whether any users on this forum of the Plextor PX-708A have had any problems with using this DVD burner?... Is the firmware upgrade just a speed/tweak enhancment, or does it solve some sort of functionality problems that the unit had previously?...

Solves a dvd+rw problem...never come accross the problem myself.
It also improves media compatibility, something I haven't had a problem with up to date either. I've only used Ritek G04's (everyone perfect) some Mirror Platinum Printable's (all shite-even on my old Pioneer104 at 1x 2x and 1x 2x 4x on Plextor)in dvd-r.
Used Arita 4x dvd+r at 4x and 8x with no probs and Ricoh 4xdvd+r at 4 and 8x no probs.
Dvd rip speed is very fast on silvers and dvd-r/+r
Cd-r write is flawless every time.
As for expensive...about £150 maybe less now, keeps droping to compete with new drives coming out.
Personally I rate it high, Plex always build damn good drives, I still use a 40x scsi cd rom from 4 or 5 yrs ago and it's still the best reader I've had.
Bite the bullet and buy some quality. :D

Thanks for the excellent review!...

Thanks for the excellent review of the Plextor PX-708A, dogznob!... I'm glad to hear that it works excellently... Personally, I don't mind spending a little extra money if it's toward an excellent product... I think I'll get the Plextor DVD burner... Thanks again for the review and letting me know what the latest firmware fixes. Also knowing what DVD media you've used with it is a plus... Thanks again!...
