please help with xp pro

ok, i just upgraded one of the computers from winxp home to xp pro; it installed fine; but after reboot, when i try to run the ms office programs like outlook, excel, etc.., it gives me error n wont open; but i can open myie2 and aida32, so whats'up with that?

thanks scarecrow; how do u uninstall office tho? can u just do it via the normal add/remove program or do u need the original cd as well?

also, after a search on google, here's what i found

"Microsoft says that if you have Office 2003 installed on a Windows XP Service Pack 1a computer, you might see this error message when starting one of the Office apps:
The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0150002). Click on OK to terminate the application.
Microsoft says that this error is triggered if one of the following conditions is met: 1) This computer was upgraded from Windows XP Home to Windows XP Professional; 2) You had to reinstall Windows XP on your computer; 3) You repaired Windows XP on this computer. scenario 1 is mine;i had xp home which came with the computer; andthen i installed office 2k3, and now upgrading from xp home to pro; so if i get sp1a, then it shoudl be ok, i hope

You can try it... although I doubt if it will fix the problem. SP1a is the same with SP1, the only difference is that the Java Virtual machine is not included in SP1a.

ok, on another note scarecrow, i'd like to seek your opinion

is it worth it to ghost everything on another computer,reformat my c drive and then do a fresh install; that way, i can get rid of all the program suites that came with the computer when i bought it and only have thoese that i want. I want to do that with a few other computers i have too as they all had norton system works and i vow to get rid of them once and for all; and norton hasnt been easy to get rid of;

if u think it's worth it, how do i do it? i have never done a format c before; i think i have only formatted a partition via partion magic (but as i remember, u dont like PM8 right ? )

A fresh installation is always the best way to have a clean, working system. You don't have to use any formatting tool, just boot your PC from the Windows XP CD, begin a new installation (not upgrade) and when you come to the point tell to the installation routine to format your primary/active partition as NTFS. No need for a Ghost image too, just copy all your valuable data to CD's or DVD's.

But be careful, all computers come with a OEM version of XP, and drivers for your computer are already included. So if you reinstall with a retail XP, you could miss some drivers. Be sure to download them before you clear everything.

Just to second this...I had a problem like that........pc was packard(hp)..If my friend didnt make me a driver..i would sell the pc--it was bad....brand new pc..btw..Only support from hp was--install our os.......

Indeed... do a fresh clean install of Windows XP regardless of your previous O.S. I have had to deal with the aftermath of several XP upgrades and it seems they all too often go loopy. This is especially true of XP Home to XP Pro. A clean install has always resolved the problem though.

if u like pain & troubles,upgrade ur os else do a nice & clean installation...maybe a pain 2 re-install all over again,but the rite choice...otherwise ghost a clean installation with just the necessary drivers...
