please help with bsod "inaccessible boot device"

Hi

please help me; i replaced my RAM which worked ok until i put back the cover and move the pc back in place, then it gives me a bsod
"stop:0x0000007B (0x84DAD870,0xc0000032,
inaccessible boot device"

after rebooting, it still gives me the same bsod screen; it happens after the windows 2000 splash screen

i can't boot into safe mode either

i can boot with a win2k boot cd but i dont know what i can do with it; i can get to the dos prompt but when i do a dir c:, it lists contents of another HD (not the main primary partition); it doesnt see any other partitions from the dos prompt

i have 5 HD on this computer, and am on windows 2000 pro

i dont know what the next step to figure out the problem is.

Thank you very much.

yeah it did open it and tried to tighten all the cables

i noticed that the primary partition is connected to a pci card (b/c it's bigger than 137gig), so when i do a dir c on the bootable CD, it sees only the HD that's directly connected to the mobo

what else can i do with the bootable cd? i thought that u can run windows with a bootable cd but apparently, u can't; i see options like commmand prompt, partition, volume manager but no option to run windows

serjer,

but i think the reason why my consultant put the primary HD on the ultra pci card was b/c it was a a big drive 200 gig; so if i hook it to the mobo directly, what will happen to the data that's already there?

Ok, boot other device is enabled as default

also, the bootable cd i have has partition magic in it, and from pm, i can see all the 5 HD as being there; so it does recognize the HD, but why does it not boot?

if it's a bad pci card or cable, then it wouldnt be seen from partition magic right?

if you boot from a dos floppy, dos cannot see this hd maybe because of drviers/hd to big/etc...
PM will see things.

Try the memtest86 to test your ram... put it on your dos floppy (be carefull, it doesnt like memory managers, edit you floppy for this)

Depends on the level of damage.
Forgot to say: Check the ram timings\volts.
Also try running a full chkdsk.
One more thing you could try: take out ram, disconnect all drives incl the pci controller card. Do a proper cmos reset, then reseat the ram(try switching slots too), boot once then reseat pci card, boot once more then reattach drives.
Seems to me controllers are sometimes sensitive to having ram timings changed.

Also might wanna try a google for "Stop 0x0000007B" or\and "inaccessible boot device"(without quotes)
:)

I've just had the same problem, never figured why it happened to me though !

My solution - I removed the additional hdd's, booted from the cd, and selected the repair function, worked fine.
