Playing CD's in auto

I burn audio CD's at home from MP3's. They play great in a boom box and in one my cars but they skip when I hit a small bump in the road with my other car. Any ideas?

From your post you can safely presume that disc and your other equipment is fine......Try and see if your cdplayer in a car is installed good--specially that all screws are tight---no loose spots(sides)...If he`s installed good,and he`s sitting good(tight inside),then it`s a cd player`s fault__Well,not exatly fault,but more of a disanventage--Specially common with older carcd-players-----But,if its a newer carplayer and its not cheap---also if did not skip earlier--it could be fixed.......If that`s happening since you bought it--and it`s not exatly a expensive model,either buy new one,or go slower over a bumps!!!!!!:D :D :D

sounds like your other cars cd player is not stabilized..i had the same thing happening to me in my wifes cougar....gave it better support and cushion and all was well....

but why would commercial CD's work fine and only the ones I burn skip??

It only skips with CD's that I burn.CD's I buy play perfectly
Well,you should say this at start bud!!Try different medium....For a test go and buy a few different good media like,werbatim,kodak,maxell....................Take like few of each kind,and check with which one you`ll have aless probs......For example i got a cd cassete witha 6xcdchanger(Alpine) and the best quility are giving me a blue discs....But not necesserilly will work for your good....Check`em all until you find what`s work the best for you??

burned CD-R reflecting a laser 10 x lesser than pressed CDs; also the pits and lands are shorter and not so sharp demarcated;
like zver told, try other media and slower burning speeds;

Had the same problem in my 01 Mustang Bullitt; had to pay more for Sony CD-R Audio blanks, work great! (manufactured for correct reflectivity for lower-power car CD player lasers).
