Just got a digital camera to mess around with , anyone know any good software to edit photos with.
(you know put the mother-in-law's head on a dog + stuff:D )

Hi Almighty1,

Adobe photo-shop elements has a populair gui and is easier to use, but it's less advanced than adobe photo-shop, it's just ment for novices. Did try it my self a wile ago but i don't liked it.

Elements2 is more than sufficient for what spider needs.
It has the same engine as photoshop but it's easier and friendlier.
The pop-up help and the wizards are super. Even then it takes some learning before you can master it.

Photoshop is for professionals and home users never need more than a fraction of it's potential. It's a bit like having the whole Office suite for making shopping lists...

I do it all the time :D

I agree! nothing easier than know how. Sometime I have to do minor retouching, applying filter, cropping (correct size for printing) hundreds of photos taken by digital camera, and I can't image what my life is if Photoshop is hard to use.

Photo-Brush by mediachance is a very fine photo editor.
For my uses, it is better than photoshop since it's so much
easier to use. It has lots of nice features, looks like it
was designed very carefully. I like it TONS better than
Paintshop Pro. (and it's only 6 mb)

Well, if it's better than Photoshop and so much easier to use then I guess most of the professionals will switch to Photo-Brush at no time, cuz most people want the best and easier to use is a bonus ;-)

I would switch to Photo-Brush in heart beep because I want nothing more than the best ;-)

Anyway, if anyone wants to learn more about Photoshop and have access to Usenet then you may want to stop by "alt.binaries.cbts" to download a set of 5 CDs by company named LearnKey. The 5 CDs set may cover around 5-10% of what Photoshop can do, but it should give you some idea of what photo retouching really is, and probably be able to see why the pro. want to use the easiest way to handle the most complicate photo ;-)

The newsgroup is one of the best newsgroups where you can find just about any multimedia teaching CD from program, word processor, network, OS you name it.

Use PaintShop Pro 7.04. Alot faster loading time (I'm sick of waiting for Photoshop to load up) and I just find it easier to use than Photoshop. Paintshop can also use most PhotoShop-based plugins as well. I'm not doggin' Photoshop - great app - but for everyday use, I find this one is alot more efficient to use..IMHO. I'm sure you can find it on ED2K.

For surfing pic folders...I use XNView (w3.xnview.com - FREE!); it's also capable of minimal editing and offers lossless JPEG Rotation - which I use ALOT! (neither Photoshop or PaintShop has this feature). If I need to do some more complicated editing and adding effects...pull up PaintShop to take care of it.

I used to use Corel PhotoPaint, but find it bloatware and nothing I can do in there that I can't in PaintShop Pro. I still use CorelDraw, though!

All in all...I guess I really don't use the Adobe products...simply because I find their GUI is not very nice and there's a higher learning curve with their products..which I simply don't have time to muck about with (don't do graphics for a living!).

Couple years ago I was helping a guy with some banners, photos for web pages and he too suggested me to try PSP for quick and dirty work which I tried and decided it wasn't my taste. I showed the man few simple tricks and can't hardly be able to get him to load PSP.

CorelDraw, the later versions have smilar features of Photoshop but require too many steps, too slow, and v1.0 is very buggy too. To me, if I have to spend time on the photo then it must look good, print out good (I retouch photos for printing not just for displaying which I don't care much), and I am pretty picky with quality.
