My pc keeps freezing on me - normally when some kind of media is playing.

Its frozen while i've watched dvd's, played cd's and now it's started doing it when I watch online video thru WMP9.

I've also got realpayer installed too.

My machine has always shut down to the blue screen when I closed the WMP but now it;s freezing on me.

Can anybody help?

Yes, reinstalled it the other day, and the same thing happens, not just with WMP but if I'm on the net playing a game at miniclips.com for instance

Once had a similar problem that was caused by the audio card, it had the same IRQ with other device and everytime that a media file was played the system freezed, so check for problem in the device manager maybe something is messing up things.

I would check for Video card driver updates as well as Audio card drivers. it might just be old drivers causing this issue. Hope this helps

I updated the audio driver, and it seemed to work.
managed to play 3 tracks from "my personal folder" and then it went to the blue screen during the 4th.

I reported the problem to Microsoft and they reckon it's a device driver, but couldn't tell me which one.

DOES this also happen during other large processes such as unrarring large files or imaging cds ?! you could have a problem with the processor over heating !?

yes its a long shot but check your cpu's heat sink fan make sure it turns freely and is not clogged blow out any dirt or dust to make sure :)

usally when the processor is under heavy load such as playin media or large processes the heat can rise quite a bit in some processors :)

worth a try anyhow :)

I've reloaded the drivers for Nvidia GeForce2 mx/mx 400
and managed to play a cd
I've also noticed now, after I get the blue screen and restart, I have to log back on to any forums I use, including this one, that's never happened before

well, when I say reinstalled the drivers, I went into device manager and right clicked the ac97 audio device and Nvidia GeForce2 mx/mx 400
and just clicked update driver.
Now, does that just install the original driver or does it get a newer one from somewhere.

Sorry to sound so thick, but it's making my brain hurt!!

That searches for a new driver but if the system can´t find a new signed driver it simply keeps the one already installed.

Your ac97 audio drivers could also be problematic here i also had problems of blue screens with my onboard ac97 audio i found it went away when i used the drivers on the motherboard installation disk and not any newer drivers :)

Just got the blue screen again.
My son was playing an online game from miniclips.com.
Is it worth me getting a new graphics card, a better one!!

Had the same problem with my system getting BSOD found it beeing the Video Drivers, generally it is an ugrade issue, meaning not unistalling the old drivers first before installing a newer version.
I suggest unistall your video drivers restart the system and let windows finish installing the basic drivers. Then start installing the latest version turn of your antivirus as it can cause problems with the Nvidia drivers during install.
Let us know how you go.

Always the same message can't remember exactly, but it mainly contained something like this error at 0000000x00000 memory address had it a couple of times and it always seemed to be fixed when I went and reinstall a fresh set of display drivers. (after removing the "old" ones first).

Next time read all the text, in some place it should be a reference to the file causing the error like a .dll or something that way you´ll know what is exactly the problem.

Get everyone to record exact error Message if it happens agin has been good for the last couple of month

I've downloaded the new driver from the Nvidia site.

Must admit to being a little nervous about deleting old drivers first, got this feeling about having a black screen when I restart, will it definitley use basic drivers on start up? and will I see anything?

Have you sussed yet out yet, I'm new to all this?

Be carefull with the latest Nvidia drivers would suggest to get the drivers provided by your board manufacuturer, it will give you all the features you board was designed for and it will be more stable.

Don't worry no black screen in XP used to be in Win 98 and ME.
