Dynamic progress update


Would you buy pixels, at $1 each?

The Million dollar homepage, 1000x1000 pixels of wall to wall adverts - well, when it's finished.
Since it is actually divided into 10x10 units at $100, there are actually 10,000 units.

I thought it was a really stupid idea when I read about it in the paper, but then I realized, it's brilliant.

First, you need a catchy name, and while it's a little long, it's catchy.

Then you need to get people talking, and it really doesn't matter too much if they say "brilliant" or "you fool", so long as they say something.

The big question though, if it ends up with a mass of 10x10's, it will server only as a link farm. Even as it stands now, I spotted something once and then took a minute or two to find it again.

IF I was going to emulate it, I'd go for a larger base unit size and a suitable price per unit - maybe farming 88x31 buttons, except that a lot of ad-blockers bar that size.

as you mention there is a catch....

Pixels on The Million Dollar Homepage are available in 100 pixel 'blocks', with each block measuring 10x10 pixels. You will see the homepage is divided into 10,000 of these blocks. The reason for selling them in these blocks is because anything smaller than 10x10 pixels would be too small to display anything meaningful.

you cannot buy JUST ONE SINGLE PIXEL you have to buy 10x10 or 100 so $100 for one block :eek:


so whatever is sold he makes $100 every ad posted :)

http://100-downloads.com/ - the link from the "free downloads" in green and yellow - I expected it to be some ropey collection of trials (the usual thing that gets plugged as a "free download", but it's actually a rather good list of freeware (main sites, rather than dowloads on site). On or two may be out of date, moved on from free versions, but the list seems to be of generally good quality.

When the "million dollar" page is complete, it may be a fun place to sick a pin in and see where you end up.

Just added the progress update to the first post, and looked at the blog - the guy's been on a US tour.

This really is one of those "why didn't I think of that" ideas, though I'd never have expected it to catch on.

Many copycats now, but I really can't see them catching the imagination in the same way.

I'd be inclined, if I was going the same way, to work on a larger base size, a 16x16 or 32x32 icon at the very least - or perhaps a virtual city

yeah count me in on the brainstorm but via pm lol so we dont get ideas stolen mate lol :D

read the blog too mate hes a genius with a HUGE BANK BALANCE and with a freebie holiday to go with it lol :D

looks like hes trade marked the idea too, hes selling the idea to others to make even more money lol :)
