I didn't download it but how on earth can it be final when Norton AV 2003 went beta just a few days ago? We probably have two more betas before it goes final, probably in August or early Sept.

hi nfol ,

You are right in saying that this is not the final version, I could not agree more.

However I have never mentioned that this was in any shape a final version, but a full version, although it was still a Beta, however it was a bit difficult getting this software to last over a year rather than a month or so that is currently being offered in a demo version that is currently available.

If I had to guess I would say that this must be close to some sort of Release Candidate, as when I was first using the Norton System Works last Aug ( a year ago befor even Win XP was released ).

I had no idea that the Norton System works that I had down loaded at that time was still a Beta version as it has worked flowlessley for merely over a year until I have found out that I was not able to update one component, reason being that it was a Beta.

Point being that personally I have never had any issues with symantec, not even their Beta software although some might disagree.

In any case I have d/l this 2003 version installed it, it updates and works with no problem for me in Win XP and Office XP Pro and checks the email traffic in outlook just fine as it did in 2002 version.

Just my 2 cents ! Cheers

Hello!

My bad. I got it wrong. I read so many posts over past few days discussing Norton's release that I am in the mess. I wasn't directly replying to your post, sort of. I just saw an download at toplist.at - I think that's the part of the link - which said Final version and that confused me. So this is just retail beta version. I've almost never had trouble with Symantec's products as well, even betas (i tested version 2002 and 2001) worked great. I wish I had cable so I could download it. I am on modem not to mention I pay access per hour so I don't have urge to download this huge piece of software which is still in beta. :) Too bad coz I my comp is full of betas and I am still wondering how it is still able to work?

Thanks for the link though. I am sure a lot of ppl will use it. What I noticed that build number ends with 47 while 2002 went final in build 58 as i can remember, so rc is definitely close. Anyone tried McAfee 7 beta? Have they improved it? ANYTHING? Or is it still a pice of s++t?

Nemesis posted yesterday NAV 2003 and claimed it full retail I downloaded it and nothing appeared to be as a beta...BUT i checked it by just forwarding time for month and it stops work..SO NO FINAL RETAIL TILL NOW

Nemesis never claimed this!

They only make releases available for download and don't test any software themselves!

But on this one iNTENSiON are a bunch of lamers, even if the released quality things in the past.

Sorry anarkan!

I made the same error with you on a previous post!
I 've test this version that you've said and is beta also!

:(

I mean iNTENSiON posted the release on this site h**p://toplist.at/nemesistnt
I do not mean that you understood

I notice that the Live Updater discovers a NAV 2003 Beta update, but that it cannot install the download because, it says, the function is in use by the Program. I could try uninstalling and then performing the update before the program's fully installed but that seems like a tremendous bother.

So has anybody else actually d'led this update?

I am not sure why you are having problem updating this.

Although this is still a very much BETA software, It had presented no problem to me during installation or update/s.

As a matter of fact it had already updated it self in more than couple of occassions with out any glitch.

The updates d/l and installed with out an slightest problem for me.

Anarkan, did you have norton antivirus from before, I had.
It updates the signatures but not the program itselv.

I got the same problems as catachresis.

I stay to my old : F-Prot v3.12a , its a really nice prog

As a matter of fact I did believe it or not, I first has the Norton Av 2002 installed.

I have uninstalled NAV 2002 then rebooted and then installed this version. I was waiting for the expiry date to show me something like three months like what I use to see when NAV 2002 went beta. Surprisingly this one gave me the normal 1 year subscription.

Since the date that I have posted this version the NAV 2003 in my system has updated it self atleast 2-3 times automatically with no hassle.

And all of this with out even fiddling with the registry either.

So I suppose there must have been some elements of the old program in the Registry, yet this version worked like a charm.

I also run ZA 3.X and Outlook XP, and they both work fine with this.

Sorry if I am not being much help here I suppose ! . . . I really don't know what to say . . .

I don't know maybe I am just being lucky or something ! :(

Hey Anarkan! Don't get me wrong -- the NAV defs are updating fine, but there's this specific "Norton Antivirus 2003" update that keeps trying to d'l but won't install. I just tried uninstalling 2003 and reinstalling, with update before program has rebooted and totally activated. Still no joy, but hey that's pretty minor. Everything else works like a charm.

I know what you mean cause a very similar thing happened to me when I was running what I used to think was a full version of system works 2002 very early about a good couple of months before it was released.

I had that for almost over a year and it was not untill very recently that while it was receiveing all the inteneded updates, it was not installing a couple of them coming with the error.

When I looked for that exact error message in symantec web site, I was able to find out that infact my copy was a Beta and not a final.

After reading your post, I went ahead and uninstalled mine as well to see what happened, infact I have also installed it on a completely different machine as well and procceded to update.

To the best of what I was able to see it received all update components and then installed them all out with out any of them missing.

Have a look at the error message that you get when it tries to install that updated components and it fails and then have a look at the symantec web site. I know that there is no support for NAV 2003 yet , so treat your problem as it was NAV 2002 or NAV 2002 Professional edition. See if that would help or if you atleast get some idea what this error message is trying to tell you.

Bizarre-bizarre! As I said, I reinstalled NAV2003 and there was an error installing the special 2003 update. Suddenly, the program has stopped telling me to download this update -- it says everything is current! Why is that? Who knows? But I'm very happy to have a fully functional program (with no nagging errors). So, cheers again, anarkan!

Bizarre-bizarre! Is the right word.
I did as you catachresis. It removed my last innstallation, restarted, installed again, the screen went black, come back, then i restarted.
This time it only updated virus definitions, a small package.

The first time I installed and run liveupdate, it downloaded 6-7 mb. STRANGE.

Now it is no beta failure update......;)

NAV 2003 trial extender?

I installed Nv930td.exe 35megs and forwarded my clock by 30 days and found the trial had expired....Is there a way to extend this trial another 30 or more days to give me a better idea of its
abilities.
Thanks in advance

Yeah, yeah -- such a pity. . . I just started getting warnings that "This is Trialware which will operate for a limited period." D@mn, I thought this was just going to be sweet.

Oh well, cheers to everyone whose chatted about this -- especially anarkan who provided the link.
