Norton Antivirus 2001 subscription extender

Why is necessary the dummy live update? Simply go (preferable with an FTP client, but not compulsory) to Symantec's virus definition download page:
*tp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_canada/antivirus_definitions/norton_antivirus/[/url]
and get the latest update - the format is MMDDi32.exe
(MMDD = month&day; ex: 0615i32exe = intelligent updater from June 15)
For those who access the page with IE: after loading the page, do a "complete refresh" (Ctrl + F5) because IE are loading the page from the cache, and maybe the latest updater will be not shown.
At present, the latest update is 0624i32.exe.
After downloading, run the exe, and the definitions will be updated in several seconds. The major advantage is that you know what you are doing, and Peter Norton does not know what you have on your computer!

Dear auras,the latest update - the format is MMDDi32.exe is about 3,3 MB big file & regulary live update for NAV virus definitions is about 0,3 MB!!!!!!!!

And, do you really think Peter Norton does not know what YOU have on YOUR computer!

BTW, thanks for a lesson you gave to us, dummies!

OK joripe, I'm really ashamed, but I think that easier is easier,
don't you think same as me?!

BTW, after 366 days neither intelligent updater for NAV 2K1 & NAV 2K2 will not update program with downloaded virus definitions!!!

Dear jasmin, I do not give lessons, only advices - for who wants. It's not compulsory to follow them. I think that on this forum anyone can have his own opinion, without attacking each another. I'm only a declared enemy of any kind of "live update", and the 3 Megs update "big" file can be downloaded even on a dial-up connection in 10 minutes. And if you know a little Unix, then can know too, that through a regular FTP client program Peter Norton cannot scan your computer. Through a browser, can.

OK auras, let's stop this silly fight!

But, I must tell you, mr Peter Norton will not be sick, no headaches, if he will not know what auras or jasmin are doin' on their PCs!

And, please, answer me: Do you try intelligent updater 366 days after installing NAV?!

a/v request

Jasmin
Sorry, wasn't mad, just gave up trying to open it:) Just as you did "copyed & Pasted it into file after making a copy of the orignal file. It worked
Don't know if it works past 364 but we'll see, I'm not gonna uninstall just because what some people say happens to them! I'll find out for myself;) & if I have to come back for more or new updated files to fire it back up "so-be-it" :cool:
Anyway for now happy with what I got Thanks a bunch:D

@ all

don't figth about my question and my answer;
i've purchased NIS2002 and NSW2002 last year, thats why i'm using it;

@ jasmin

thanks again
so i will wait, till my purchased days are gone and than i'll try your posted file

@ auras

i'm using LiveUpdate, because it updates not only NAV, it updates also the the firewall and the rest of the norton applications;
e.g. former i had a problem between my RAID-Controller driver and Norton SpeedDisk, two weeks later it was fixed per LiveUpdate

I'm very sorry, jasmin, but even I'm using Windows starting with version 3.0, never happened to me to not reinstall the OS at least 2 times per year, on each of my PCs, usually reformatting the boot partition. Therefore I could not try a such update.

@Duracell: by curiousity, I tried a few times to "live update" NU, but every time I got: "no update available" - the same thing for NU 2k, 2k1, 2k2.

Some arguments for auras

Hello auras, no more arguin' - no more fight, peace! OK?

Just one thing, you wrote this:

by curiousity, I tried a few times to "live update" NU, but every time I got: "no update available" - the same thing for NU 2k, 2k1, 2k2.

I really don't know what's wrong with your NU installation, I've just made an update of NU 2K2, send you snapshots (91,3 KB).

Again, don't think this is a fight or somethin' like that, just want to help you so you have a latest NU avaliable.

Best wishes!:) :) :) :) :)

You are right, this time I tried and found "available updates" (and not downloaded them...). But is right, too, that I was very little interested about updates. Last time I tried, was, I think, in January or even earlier. All utilities I'm using, Disk Doctor, Win Doctor, Speed Disk, Registry Editor, are working fine. The absolutely necessary updates are only the antivirus definitions.

P. S. I don't downloaded the updates because my computer is programmed for a Windows reinstallation.

Re: Thanks to jasmin & roadworker

Duracell said:
Does it match with Norton InternetSecurity 2002 and SystemWorks Professional 2002?
Or does it enable only LiveUpdate for AntiVirus and the rest (Firewall, CleanSweap ...) will never been updated?
so i'm back and can answer the question by myself:
the Subscription Extender works too with NIS and NSW; it also extends the updatetime for the firewall for 366 days; the always free updates for the programmparts of NSW are further possible;

Greetings from
Duracell

A way i found of updating at least nortan 2001 and 2002 is uninstall With add remove programs as normal then remove any folders called nortan anti virus and symantec in the program files folder or where nortan was installed it may need a reboot to let you remove them then you need to delete the folder in the C:\WINDOWS\All Users\Application Data folder called symantec

then remove the folder called symantec in
C:\WINDOWS\Application Data folder

then finally use regedit from the run bar under the start button type regedit and use the find function to 1stly find any entries with symantec in them and delete them by right click delete do this and hit f3 to keep seaching and remove each entry as it finds them ;)

withme so far ?! yes !? good then ....

now search for any entries that have the word NORTAN in and delete them too then hit f3 as above and keep searchin and deleting as and when found !!

this should allow you to reinstall nortan 2001 or 2002 from scratch and get the ful quota of free updates for 1 year ! which should keep you busy for a while lol ;)
