As the NFL 2002-2003 season approaches, who do you consider the greatest quarterback of all time? Sorry in advance if I didn't nominate your favorite QB ;)

Terell Davis carries the load for Denver..

I put the blame on Don Schula and the ownership of the Miami Dolphins for net getting a Super Bowl win with Dan Marino. When Dan Marino arrived in Miami, the offense was set for pass, pass, pass. Miami really never had a "great" running game and always depended on Dan Marino's arm. Had Miami set their offense to run a little more, I honestly believe Miami would have won at least 2 Super Bowl's with Dan Marino ;) I can't even name a "good" running back who played with Dan Marino...

Take a close look at the Denver Broncos (John Elway) and his 1st two Super Bowl attempts compared to his last two attempts. Denver won their last 2 Super Bowls primarily because of their strong running game and a well experienced QB. Terell Davis& company helped provide Denver with 2 Super Bowl crowns.
Just my opinion :D

If Montana is up there, I'd suggest putting Young up there as well. Young had a better arm, made better decisions, amd was mobile. Montana had the element of surprise on his side while Young faced defenses that knew what was gonna happen but couldn't stop it. (I am a Saints fan so I know. :( ) The only reason I went with Marino is because Young wasn't there.

*On a side note*
If you are a Buckeye's fan, congrats on that win. Clarett (sp?) looked damn good. I hope he does that against real competition though. A real good friend of mine was a Buckeye's fan so I kinda pull for them when they aren't playing against a real conference, the SEC. ;) hehe

My Tigers play against V. Tech this coming Sunday so it's gonna be a good weekend.

Strype,
If Steve Young made better decisions than Joe Montana, then why did Steve Young end up with soo many concusions and eventually retire from the game due to that fact? I watched countless times where Steve Young took matters into his own hands and run the football and rather than slide, he would attempt to "get the extra yard" and he paid the price for doing so.
Joe Montana faced just as many tough defenses (if not more) than Steve Young. In his prime, Joe Montana could run the football when needed, and he was better at reading the blitz than Steve Young. A perfect example of this is when Kansas City played Houston in the playoffs. Buddy Ryan was the defensive coordinator for the Oilers and he blitzed Joe time and time again. Joe Montana showed Buddy Ryan what a stupid mistake he was making, and Kansas City smashed them Oilers for a great victory. I still remember to this day Keith Cash (tight end) catching a td and throwing it against a banner that had Buddy Ryans name on it :D Defenses at times couldn't stop Joe Montana as well. One of the greatest SuperBowls ever played was when the 49'ers faced the Bengals in 1989. With about over a minute to play in the game, Joe Montana drove his offense down the field and surprised the Bengal defense by throwing a perfect strike to John Taylor for the winning touchdown(not Jerry Rice) ;)I consider Joe Montana the greatest clutch QB to ever play the game. He proved that in a Monday Night football game against the Denver Broncos. He proved to John Elway when the game is on the line, I win. The game went into overtime and Kansas City won by a near margin. Don't take this personal, just my opinion. Steve Young was a great QB and owns NFL records. He will soon be in the "shrine", the NFL Hall Of Fame :D

I don't. I hate the SOB's because they are both 9'ers. :D I disagree that Montana made better decisions by the number of concussions Young had. Favre plays with the same wreckless abandon and he has been fortunate not to have many if any concussions. Hell, look at Aikman. I don't think you can say he was a QB that made bad decisions based on the amount of his concussions. To use that as a basis is ludicrous. LMMFAO. We'll have to agree to disagree because I feel Young is the better QB. I'd take Montana even passed his prime if Young wasn't available though. ;)

go 49ers... strype as long as they were both 9ers they're ok to me.
LMAO

As a Saint's fan, I have to disagree with ya'. ;) What pisses me off is that now the Saints are finally competetive again, they get moved to the NFC South. :(

But to stick with the topic of the thread did you prefer Montana or Young?

Joe Montana, 4 SuperBowls rings

Strype,
I believe you misunderstood me. I used Steve Youngs concussions as an example of his somewhat careless decisions on the field. Steve Young at times took himself out of the game, rather than by a sack (concussion). As far as Troy Aikman, his concussions literally could'nt be helped because his great offensive line either retired, or were traded. All QB's make mental mistakes on the field, but if you're a QB you don't take yourself out of the game because you are the most important player out there (offensively). Steve Young had a tendacy to "get the extra yard" and he took himself out of the game which hurt the team ;)
We are entitled to our opinion, and from the poll stats at present, I feel Joe Montana was the greatest QB to ever play the game :D
Nothing wrong to disagree, but to argue= not tolerable...

I hardly think that an NFL poll in an international forum justifies who was the better QB. LMAO :D Arguing about something and debating it is a fine line. Depending on how sensitive the two people are. Believe me, I wasn't arguing. ;)

hXXp://www.football.com/nfl/records/NFLPassing.shtml

Look at McMahon on the Bears. He was hardly the most important player on that team. See Walter Payton. ;) I think if you have an adequate QB and a good O-line, and a damn good D, you'll be successful. See Dilfer. ;) It certainly helped the 9'ers having two kickass QB's back to back though. I still think those Championship 9'er teams would have been successful with a lesser QB. Those were pretty solid teams across the board. Of course the cheating didn't hurt. ;)

Strype,
We're not arguing here, we're having a friendly discussion as to whom you& I think the greatest QB to ever play in the NFL. You do bring up an intersting point about stats. Many players in all sports don't attract attention from the press or journalist because they have no rings on their fingers. Take a look at Fran Tarkenton, Dan Marino, Dan Fouts. These 3 QB's compiled great stats, yet they have no rings on their fingers. It's a shame you have to wear a ring on your finger to be considered "great", or a champion. In my opinion, all 3 of these QB's are champions. What I meant by my statement: "Nothing wrong to debate, buut to argue= intolerable. You and I are having a friendly debate here m8 :D Dad once told me 3 topics that can't be argued: 1) Politics,
2) Religion, 3) Sports. When these topics come up, someone is bound to argue rather than just have a nice friedly debate ;). Strange how Troy Aikman has 7 votes but those who voted for him made no posts? (hehe). Thanks for the link, great information m8 :D

There is nothing like splitting hairs over two great QB's as to which was better. I can tell you need football to start too. LMAO

Fair enough but your father was wrong in his opinion. My opinion is the only one that is fact. ;) J/K LMAO
If you want more football links, I can supply a few. ;)

Just to get some Aikman input:
Aikman is a bum. :D

Cleveland or Ciny fan?

I LOVE FOOTBALL!!!

Have a good one.

Dan Marino is and by far only the best Quarter back in nfl history...broke every record conceived of....and is the only one without a superbowl ring.to bad the team allways let him down and he had to retire and go out like that.......but if it were me...you bet i would have been looking to be traded after the second superbowl loss.......GO DANNY BOY !!!!!! rah rah rah

1984 Superbowl, Joe Montana vs. Dan Marino

dax300,
Dan Marino sure was one of the greatest QB's to ever play the game. Dan Marino shattered literally every record there is for a QB. To the contrary, my vote goes to Joe Montana. Joe "comeback kid" Montana was the greatest clutch QB to ever play in the NFL. That's why Joe has 4 ringers on his fingers :D Remember when Joe faced Dan in 1984 Superbowl? The 49'ers beat the Dolphins to a pulp but I don't place any blame on Dan Marino at all. Miami just didn't have any running game and a sub standard defense.

Drew Bledsoe !!!! Man you don't even have him on that list - But if I had to choose I would say Dan Marino and Terry Bradshaw only because they are both from Pittsburg :D
