Cd/Dvd media section

Ever get annoyed with CDR/DVD media that just does not work or even worse is rebranded media?!

For this reason, the staff here have decided to create a new section (a sub section of CDR/RW). It is a place where you can post your experiences with CDR/CDRW & DVDR/DVDRW media.

Besides if you are like me, rebranded media is an annoyance. I'm getting tired of all these companies that keep switching media...like TDK from Taiyo Uden to Ritek. It pisses me off when I get the packaging open only to find that the company switched to crappy media.

Thus a new section where peeps could use an ATIP scanner and then post their finding along with a description of the packaging, where they picked it up, country, etc. is born. This should help take the guessing game out of buying CDR media.

If you find a media that works well with your burner...by all means post your findings. Please make sure to give a little detail ie, specifics like the following would be helpful...

1) Media (esp if it's rebranded)
2) Media speed rating
3) Package description
4) Country and merchant (retail store or online) where you purchased it.
5) Purchase price
6) Your Burner and firmware revision

Have fun with this new Forum section! :)

Whenever possible...please use an ATIP reader to identify the media.

Personally I use the freeware, Nero CD Speed because it has a lot of extras built in (media and drive benchmarking, C1 and C2 error testing, etc.). It identifies DVDR/W as well as CDR/W and is updated frequently. Version 1.02 (released 11 December 2002) can be downloaded here: http://www.cdspeed2000.com/

I find Nero CDSpeed tends NOT to show a full ATIP code IF it recognises the maker - this may have changed with the new release.

Oops, I meant Nero InfoTool

PS. The CD-R Media info tool by Alexander Filipoff just Id'ed one that Nero couldn't - A PINE CD-RW that turns out to be DST.

I'm especially interested in media that works with the pioneer a05/105.
When u say what burner u are using please give the firmware.
This can make a huge difference with some burners.

THIS is the One that beat "Nero Infotool" from the last Nero update - at least on one ID. Not sure if it's ASPI-dependent like the old CDR Identifier., since I HAVE a valid ASPI anyway.
