New for A03 and A04

The firmware tecnoplus posted is official and released yesterday. It relates to a fix to prevent damage to the drives whan using 4X media. Not sure if it will correct the problems people have had with the previous update. Will check around and report back.

Quote from Pioneer's site:

September 17, 2002 - As the DVD Forum releases the specifications for high-speed media, Pioneer Europe NV announces that a number of its DVD-R/RW computer drives and DVD-R/RW recorders will require a firmware update in order to use the new media and avoid potential damage to the units and media. This problem is caused by a “bug” in the unit’s firmware. The firmware update corrects internal code in the recorders and drives, which would otherwise malfunction when attempting to record to blank new high-speed media. The update process is simple and it is extremely important that consumers make sure it is completed prior to using the new high-speed media.

Firmware 1.32

Hi you all,
without thinking it all over long enough I upgraded my DVR 104 to fw 1.32. Had I only not done so! With 1.31 everything worked fine and it burned Princo discs at 2x speed.
Not it still recognizes the same Princos as 2x discs, but then burns them at single speed. What a mess, though trying hard I have not been able to downgrade back to 1.31, even the 1.20 Universal Upgrade that was supposed to be able to downgrade to any firmware, doesn't seem to do the trick anymore.

I am kind of desperate, I just want to warn you off fw 1.32. I would appreciate it very much if anyone could give me instructions as to downgrading back to fw 1.31

check out this link it will have what you are looking for , i have not personally used it yet but everyone else seems to sing its praises.Basically its a small executable that you execute in dos which will let you return your firmware back to its original 1.2 and then from there you can perform your update to your selected firmware.

@ chopster

Thank you for replying. I tried your link, but flashing the drive with what I found there didn't work. I'll probably have to wait until some genius coder comes up with a satisfying solution to my problem.
