Problems with Firmware 1.20

I have just downloaded and flashed the update for the Pioneer DVR-104 and DVD-R & RW writing no longer work.

I must admit that I have just installed a new motherboard but as everything else is working I suspect that the reason that I can no-longer write to a DVD-RW (Princo ver 1.1) is down to updating the firmware.

Has anyone else tried the ver 1.20 firmware as NERO now gives a 'Communication failure' error when I try to burn to a DVD-R or RW. I have also downloaded the trial version of InstantCD/DVD 6.4 and this won't burn to a DVD-R/RW either.

Writing to a CD-R & RW still work okay as well as reading from a DVD or CD.

If anyone else has tried this updated firmware I would be interested to know if it works before mailing Pioneer about this problem.

Hi there...

I had this problem.
All i did was to re-install mobo drivers..i.e if u have an
Via chip set, then get them from ya mobo makers
site. And that should do the trick...

UPDATE...
looks like i will have to do a re-format..
some of mine(not all)burning progs wont work..
will post back..

I have just set up my old motherboard (Abit SA6R) with my second hard drive and re-installed Windows XP Pro. The Pioneer DRV-104 seems to work fine :)

I will now try transplanting this hard drive with my new motherboard (NV7-133R) and see how things go with a virgin install after I've installed the motherboard drivers.

At least it looks as though the updated firmware (1.20) works okay :) or at least with the Abit SA6R (815 chipset).

Just done a clean installation of XP on the NV7-133R and things are okay.

Mind you when I connect up my other drives it looks as though the problem returns so I guess the Pioneer DVR-104 either clashes with something else or I need a bigger power supply.

Thanks for the help.
:D

Sorted...

DVR 104,Firmware 1.20 & NV7-133R motherboard all working okay :D

It looks like most of my problems were with nero as I've just burned a DVD-RW with RecordNow MAX v4.00 whilst ripping a music CD to my harddrive with WMP & also playing a mp3 and surfing the net to test the burnproof.

The drive stopped halfway through burning over 4 Gig and as soon as I closed down WMP it started up again and finished burning without a problem. :D

I hoped that Nero might actually work by now but who was I kidding.

I just RMA'd a DVR-104 after 2 days of communications errors under NERO 5582 and WinXP-Pro.

Does this combo. not work at all?

If I install RecordNow Max 4.0 will this solve the problem? My new drive arrives tomorrow and I fly out on vacation on Sunday morn. so I won't have mcuh time to much around with it.

I may have RMA'd a good drive for fault of NERO.

What's the scoop here. I love NERO for my plextors. Can NERO and RecordNow CO-Exist? BTW, I also use InCD for my CDRW's.

What's the answer guys. I'm very new to DVD...

hmm...
1. did Nero work before u upgraded the firmware ? mine didn´t work after updating...
2. Nero works with A04
3. Nero & Record Now should work on the same machine...

I have not bothered with InCD but I have had Nero 5580 & RecordNow MAX 4.00 both installed and working quite nicely.

The only thing to note is that RecordNow works okay with Ultra DMA mode 2 but Nero requires PIO 4 mode as the transfer mode in device manager.

The drive's MFG day is/was o5/2002 so I didn't do anything to firmware (How do you check the version anyway? I can't find it under drive properties, or device mgg).

I'll go ahead and install the RecordNow software and give it a shot if the new drive gives same results tomorrow. I think I tried PIO mode too, with poor results. Not even ONE good burn completed on either DVD-r/rw CD-R/RW. I just get the damnd communications error with the first drive. It was RMA'd per the vendor'r advice.

I hope I didn't just wast a big chunk of money on something that won't work with my set up. I just ordered a Pinnecle AV 7 system to go with my DVD drive. Was looking forward to lots of fun, but so far I've had no luck. I'm praying it was a bad drive, but now I'm starting to think it may not have been. I even installed a new drive controller (Promise TX2 ATA100) for my harddrives so the DVD's can have there own controllers. Fingers crossed for tomorrow guys...

Gawd, that will suck. I hope I don't have to go that route...

The OS drive has about 80GB on it what a mess... It's so huge I don't even back up most of the stuff. Only mission critical files. It will take days to reconsturct the thing...
