Nero SCSI Target Error

Hi everyone...I hope somebody will be able to help me with this. I'm really new to all this stuff, so it would be great if you could explain things really thoroughly to me.

Anyway, here's the problem: whenever I try to burn an audio CD with either mp3s or wavs in Nero 5590, I get a SCSI target error at some point in the burn, then the program stops responding. When I try to use the crappy HP program that came with my burner, I get a buffer underrun error. When I use CDRWin, I get no errors but the process goes by too fast and only the first few tracks are readable (I assume it encounters the same error and fails to burn the rest of the cd). I tried all of the tips from good old HP customer support, but of course nothing worked.

I'm running Windows 98 on a Pentium 3 700 laptop (but will probably install XP in the next day or so). My burner is an HP cd4re, which my computer recognizes as a cd4f. It's a USB burner (yeah, I know it sucks, but it was all I could get). It was working fine until the middle of the summer, and it has always been compatible with both Nero and the type of media I was using (TDK data cd-rs). I have a feeling that the drivers may be the problem, because my control panel tells me that Microsoft "standard cd-rom device" drivers are installed instead of the cd4 drivers that came on the installation cd, and Windows won't let me install those. The ASPI layer is not the problem because I have updated it and the errors still occur.

Any and all help is appreciated! Let me know if you need more info. Thx.

Try replacing the WNASPI32.dll in your Nero folder with the one from c:\windows\system or c:\windows\system32 since nero the ASPI layer that sits in the Nero program folder.
