Nero Help reqd...

Problem :
If the data to be written has a mixture of folders & files in the root folder or any other sub-folder, then all the files in that fodler in the CD are inaccessible. I am able to workaround this problem by ensuring either only files or only folders exist in any given folder. Any solutions to this problem???

Specs:
S\w - Nero Burning ROM 5.5.9.9
H\w - Samsung Rewriter 8/4/24
OS - Win Me
CDs - Data CDs

I have enabled ISO1 Mode 2 with no relaxation in restrictions and Joliet as the secondary volume descriptor. The problem still persists.

I use English char-set. First symbol in the file\folder name is always a char. Only non alpha-numerics used in the names are "." and "_"

I haven't tried with different machines. However, I have tried with a CD-ROM drive on the same machine. I will try on my Athlon and let you know the results.

Hi pokopiko,

You are a genius!!! The disks work perfectly on the athlon. Even the autorun feature works. I am able to access all the problematic files.

Does this mean Nero has some built-in check or something??? I remember reading many programs have this kind of booby-traps.

BTW, in one of ur earlier mails, you had hinted abt. better pgms than Nero. Any suggestions regd. the same.

Thank you,

PS: You are an asset to the group.

Have you been mucking around with tools like forceaspi, several different burn programs etc.

If the CDs you wrote will read on another machine, but not correctly in the writer or another drive on the same machine, then I'd say something is screwed up - maybe a good time to think about a clearout and reinstall? - or perhaps an exorcism!

Or add the trial of FEURIO to the mix, as it's pretty good at rooting out the crap others can leave!

If you'd been got by a booby trap, I'd expect the written CD to be bad - in ALL machines!

Hi,

Yep, I had installed not one but a whole bunch of softwares to try to find out which one is the easiest to use & had then settled on Nero. The list goes something like this -
Adaptec Easy CD Creator,
Adaptec Direct CD,
Clone CD,
Fire Burner,
Nero... :(

Yes, "SCSI1HLP.VXD" was present in the iosubsys folder. I deleted it. Now I can access the files using my main PC too!!!

Once again thanks Pokopiko and LTR12101B.

scsi1hlp.vxd is NOT a remnant of ECDC - it is something which can cause trouble in association with it though.

A function SCSI1HLP is often required for, is to enable VCD playing - though on some systems, that is possible without it!

I believe there ARE list of ECDC files around....
But hey, if it woorks, don't knock it - just be aware that you MIGHT find that you cannot play VideoCD without that file!

Also, with the combination I had *** NO SCSI *** required by the VCD playing software I tried - not sure if it was Creative Player I was using at the time - and a different drive.

H'mm - I have ECDC 4.01 (used ASPI) upograded to 4.05, DCD 3.05, and I STILL have a Win98 original SCS1HLP.vxd here.

I have "opted out", by changing extension to ".vx_" the "useless but possibly troublesome" files:
Atapchng.vxd
Necatapi.vxd
Torisan3.vxd

These are native Win9x files that support specific CD devices, and may cause trouble to writer programs - may be removed if the devices (Atapi CD-ROm changer, OLD NEC CD-ROM, and old TROISAN CD-ROM) are not present.

Thnx LTR12101B,

I do not have any of the devices mentioned. Hence, I have renamed the three Vxds as suggested with no apparent loss in functionality. I haven't tried VCDs though.

I use WMP. So this should be ok. Used to use Power VCD (or something with a similar sounding name in which most of the buttons were disabled. Only play, fwd, rwd used to work. But I lost it. Now I stick to WMP).
