nero CD burning errors

Hello!

Ricoh RW1865 DVD+R combo drive in laptop
Producing a lot of CD coasters.

Strangely, can burn DVD+s without problems, and read all types of media burned elsewhere.

Applied all suggested solutions: cleared the strange Praxis driver that appeares out of nowhere; Tried ForceASPI 1.7/1.8; applied Nero clean pack and disabled the XP burner.

Since the suggested error type is media used - I've tried all types of brands:Verbatim,TDK,Sony,BENQ,Maxell,... no success.

Allways burning errors at 6%. Log file in attachement,

maybe someone can read it better than I can...

thank you in advance!

Removed key from your logfile Thank you. Any ideas?

6.0.0.28 is a rather old version of Nero, though not, from memory, a particularly troublesome one ... a point or two before they started the 6.3 cycle, and the end of the 6.3 is a much better bet than the start of 6.6.

I'd be inclined to update Nero (you can update the Express version with the download, it stays as express).
ftp://ftp5.nero.com/software/NeroBurningROM/nero63125.exe
If FTP5 doesn't work, try FTP,FTP2 or ftp.us.nero.com if you're in the USA
And then re-evaluate the problem - if you want to install this version clean, then make a note of the key (OEM CD version normally embed the key on the CD) and then you can install as demo (maybe expired) and then register it with the key (it will go to the same OEM-locks as the original). I would say ALWAYS write down your Nero OEM key, as it saves a lot of messing around if you want to reinstall the latest (supported update) version cleanly - I assume it's OEM, as I'd never use Express by choice!

I see the media in that test is CD-RW - presumably it's failing the same way on CD-R as well, as I have a complete mistrust of CD-RW media.

I can't tell from that log, what IDE controller the system is using, as some controllers can result in problems - the error reported often bears little relation to the real problem.

as LTR said, your current Nero version is from stone age;

about the -RW media: i had a Ricoh CD-R burner before, this thing did never accept other -RW media than original RICOH;

and about your log: there is an interacting (maybe problematic) driver listed which i don't know:
"Existing drivers:
File 'Drivers\ADPU160M.SYS': Ver=v3.60a (Lab01_N(johnstra).010529-2218), size=101888 bytes, created 17.8.2001 22:07:32"

Greetings from
Duracell

I had a ricoh 7060 cd burner...It was a 6x speed burner and 4x for rw.
It was a excelent drive, burned r and rw without problems at all,all kinds of media too including cheap crap like cmc too :)
Btw,imho it was a excelent drive,it had a kickass audio extraction with excelent c2 error correction using eac :)

Isn't it supposed to be a laptop?
If so- what the heck has an Adaptec Ultra160-SCSI driver (ADPU160M.SYS) is doing there? Did you install the driver on advice, or by accident?
Notice also that:
(Medium in drive: CD-RW. Medium required by compilation: CD-R/RW.)
...which means that you have started a DVD mastering project, while you have loaded a CDR(W) in the drive- this way you ain't got any serious chances to succeed- if it worked then everybody would be happier and richer!
And of course your Nero version is old and buggy (second one applies for all known Nero versions).

update

OK, updated the NERO - still the same problems.See attached log.
Changes - I now see my DMA is disabled, and cannot get it back on - will try reinstalling the driver as suggested in the forum.
As for Adaptec Ultra160-SCSI driver (ADPU160M.SYS) I have no idea what it is, how it got onto my laptop and whether or how I should get rid of it?

Thanks for your support and hope it hasn't run dry yet...

Please just copy and past the text it just makes it easier to read. PC-GUY

Actually by googling I found quite a few laptop users which had the very same problem, and ALL of them having ADPU160M.sys installed as a driver... maybe installed by the companion utilities?
Is it an Amilo laptop?

It seems that Nero on certain systems picks up this system driver (from XP's i386 folder), installs and activates it. The reason is quite obscure to me- it's certainly not needed for burning, but it might be used by Nero's ImageDrive, if the latter is installed. I cannot know, as I don't use Nero, nor I intend installing it to find out...
And anyway your burner's DMA status is PIO4, you must activate DMA mode else you will be able to burn just at very low speeds.
Your burner is master at the secondary IDE channel ( start/settings/control panel/system/hardware/device manager, there expand the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers icon, rightclick the secondary IDE channel and "properties"- under advanced settings tab change the transfer mode for device0 from "PIO" to "DMA if available", then reboot and check it back if it applied).
