nero 7 used read buffer

:confused: how's it goin? i haven't been to the forum in awhile and this is probably a redundant question but i can't seem to find it in the search.

i recently updated from nero 6 to 7 and all seems to be well except one thing.
the used read buffer during the burning stages while using the burning rom part of the software.
when i used nero 6 my entire used read buffer filled up and it burnt fine. now when using nero 7 my used read buffer fills to about 40% then stays there and the process takes up to like 15 minutes [ vs. like 8 mins in the past @ 8x]

the dma is set on all drives [hd's and optical drives]
i 'm running 2g's of ram
i have a pent 4 3ghz processor
and the aspi layer is up to date [4.71]

i uninstalled the software and went back to nero 6 and it worked fine like it used to. i then reinstalled nero 7 and now back to slo burning and half filled used read buffers.

any suggestions or miracle fixes? i appreciate all whom read this post and try to help. thanx! :confused:

please attach the Nero log file here, so we can look for conflicting drivers; the Nero log file is called "NeroHistory.log" and is stored in the Nero program folder; when posting the file please delete out your Nero serial number;

but in generally "don't fix what isn't broken"; so my suggestion is staying with the lastes version 6; :)

Greetings from
Duracell

Would of said DMA but you checked this and v6 worked fine .. as above if it aint BROKE :)

im still using 5.5.x.x and no bothers at all :)

well i went to nero.com and downloaded their reg cleaner and other clean packs for nero 6. this seemed to solve the problem. once i reinstalled nero 7, the read buffer filled up and i'm not in the business of making coasters anymore. i appreciate the replies.

i've used nero products since like nero 3 i think maybe even earlier, but i've had no probs or qualms about this software at all. 5 was great, lean , and very simple to use. i liked 6 very much too. i still have it on one of our pcs. 7 i'm just getting used to it. it would be nice if it didn't have all the extra crap like sound trax, nero scout, back it up, or a few of the other options you can choose during installation. i do like recode though. i used to use shrink in the past and nero recode's quality , to myself and people here, is much better and sharper. i'm not sure about this recode version that's packed in nero 7. i'll have to play with it for awhile. nero vision isn't that bad of a one click app when it comes to converting avi's. i have a standalone player to watch all me avi's but when i need to convert one for a family member or friend real quick , nero vision gets the job done.

once again i apprectiate your replies and thanx for the info.........lata

F.Y.I. RECODE is essentially DVD SHRINK but slightly repackaged/reprogrammed with a different interface for AHEAD as they bought the rights to it along with its programmer hence no more shrink after 3.2 :)

You may of noticed its got a lot of similarities to SHRINK :D :)

Thanks, reminds me I should do the same when I bite the bullet and replace my old OEM 6.x with a full 7.x.

Not heard much of new releases, perhaps a sign that it's settled

well guys i celebrated too soon..........:eek: .it's doing it again. this time i saved the log before reverting back to nero6 and like before nero6 works like it should[fills up the read buffer] i'll paste this log in case one of you would like to try to figure out the confliction. i did notice a nero error about half way thru it . perhaps that's it. i have nero7 on my second pc and it fills the buffer up. i'll post the successful log as well. hope someone can figure this out.........:confused:

SENSE errors are usually a MEDIA ISSUE but if you havent tried any other brands meantime and both burns were on the same media then that issue is ruled out :)

yeah one log is from a pc whre nero 7 is working correctly [buffr stays full] that's the good log. the other log is where the issue is. i have tried it with my memorex drive, my Liteon drive, and lastly me sony drive. they all do the same thing. i surrendered for now til i read something or get lucky and switched back to nero 6. i miss some of the stuff on nero 7 but me read buffer stays full and even does so burning from a hard drive on the same IDE strap[secondary]. i'll go ahead and post the nero 6 log that i saved after reinstalling it and having a successful burn[read buffer stayed full and burned in a timely manner] it still had the sense error but the buffer stayed full none the less....strange.

the reason for the DVD/RW is because i quit burning my regular dvds [memorex/sony] until i got the read buffer to act right. with nero 7 installed it wouldn't even fill up burning @2.4x. there was clearly a confliction somewhere. thanx again for your input and firmware update [nice!]. i'll monitor this post now and then to see if you guys get any ideas on this matter. thanx

guys i just noticed looking at these logs.........nero six shows the location of my aspi layer [4.71]. nero seven does not at the beginnning of each log yet it says SPTI used. isn't that microsoft's aspi layer kinda? they say seven is ready for vista. i wonder if seven is even designed to use the old adaptec aspi layer. also the info tool that comes with seven doesn't even have a tab showing the current aspi layer. all other versions of nero i've had have done so. and all faq's and literature reccomend updating your aspi layer before troubleshooting anything else. id ont' know but it's a crusty thought.

it is XP's native burning interface similar to an ASPI layer;

... Also, which drive was it burning from, looks like it shares an IDE with a hard disk, and that strains throughput.
DiskPeripheral : Maxtor 6Y160P0 atapi Port 0 ID 0 DMA: On

i second this theory; the Sony seems to be the Maxtor's master, not the best configuration solution;
have a look, chronicking: http://forum.dvdrbase.info/showthread.php?p=237875

May I ask why you've installed the Adaptec Ultra160 SCSI miniport driver at your system? You don't have any real SCSI peripherals, just a virtual one (probably Alcohol 120% drive) which does not need such a driver.
I also wonder where PXHELP20.SYS: Ver=2.03.32a comes from- its not the version of the Sonic ASPI driver used in Winamp and other simlar products.
And finally, the indicated ASPI version for Windows XP is *not* 4.71, but the older 4.61- unless you are using special hardware, like SCSI LVD harddisks.
And, unless you feel its absolutely necessary to use Alcohol 120% (or is it Daemon Tools 4.X?) I'd suggest using a milder CD-ROM emulator: the antiprotection rootkit used in A120% - DT 4.X is too intrusive to be considered as a sane software solution.

sorry about the slow follow up for this thread guys. i've been working like a madman of late........... anywayz, i took the advice of this thread and updated me firmware for me sony drive, replaced me old [40 wire] IDE straps with the new [80wire] ones, uninstalled alcohol 120 [never really used it], and now just use windows spti interface. none of this did the trick......... but it does burn fine at 4x or slower [4x is fine]. i am in agreeance with LTR1280 that the HD and Burner are too much for the one IDE channel. after reading the link from Duracell, i am beginning to wonder if i should switch my configuration on the secondary IDE channel [ like making the HD the master].
if i do this, i wonder if it will affect the burner when burning from the main HD.....? like i said guys, sorry bout the momentary lapse of reason on this thread. lata

it cound't make the things more worst than yet;

and of course it depends which your "main HD" is; if the "main HD" is one of this
Code:
DiskPeripheral : Maxtor 6Y160P0 atapi Port 0 ID 0 DMA: On
DiskPeripheral : MAXTOR STM3320620A atapi Port 0 ID 1 DMA: On
it wouldn't effect because the different IDE channel;

cool i'll switch it when i get back from work then burn a couple of coasters to see if it still worx or affects the burning speed. thanx for the advice.
