Need some help, odd problem.

I have been using a Pacific Digital Branded DVD+-RW burner for about two months. It is actually an AccessTek/Optorite DD0201. I'm running it in a Sony P4 1.8 ghz system with a Pioneer DVD drive. I was previously running it with a Sony 175e CDRW burner, but the DVD burner would not read all the DVD's I needed to back up so I swapped out the CDRW with the the original DVD drive that came with the system. The DVD burner is supposed to burn CDR's and CDRW's as well, but it will not recognize a blank CDR disk. It will recognize and play CD audio disks, both purchased and burned CDR media.

The Microsoft website said that XP will only recognize the initial CDRW device installed in the system, but the way to get around it was to change the drive letter. I have tried this to no avail. Do I need to change the slave/master configuration of the drives? Is there anyway to make this work? Do I just have a defective burner? It works great with DVD media. It is a 4X dual media burner and I've had excellent success with everything that I've tried to burn except CDR media.

Any help is appreciated.

If your having problems with the drive not being recognized you should double check the jumpers to make sure that one is master and the other is slave and that they are on the corresponding connector on the ide cable. Master on the end and slave in the middle. If they are correct and you are still having issues you can try setting both drives to cable select which may change the drive letters.

As far as the cd media try a different brand. Drives can be picky as to which media they use. I personally have had 52x cd's recognized as 24x cd's in my burner.

You guys are the best!! I had the DVD burner on the middle connector on the IDE cable. I swapped the positions of the drives, and voila! It now reads all the CDR media that I have. Thanks much!!!
