Need advise on good word processor

I've been using Corel WordPerfect ever since I inherited my father's compaq portable fifteen years ago -- it weighed twentyfive pounds and had a seven inch amber screen. I ceased using Perfect Writer, went over to Word Perfect and have never looked back, despite having to deal with Office more and more. You can get a new copy of WordPerfect Office Suite 2000 for around $20. -- a very sensible investment.
My kids and I use Wod Perfect and we like it better than MS Word. And if you have the chance then stay with v8 or v9 which little less bug than the current v10.
I don't know where you can find older version but current version then check with Usenet as people post it there once awhile (less than Office). And the whole suite is about 4 CDs

If you can order from the US, pricewatch.com shows that directdeals.com has the WP Suite 2000 for $11. and up.
StarOffice, OpenOffice and Corel WordPerfect are all good alternatives besides Microsoft Office. I use StarOffice daily and has most things needed for a word processor. StarOffice opens all of my Word .doc files better than Word does!!! I hear good things about WordPerfect also. I hope this helps.

Samna AMI, Samna Ami Pro, Lotus Ami Pro, Lotus WordPro, IBM Smartsuite (containing Wordpro).
Cheap, of course, but #2 and trying harder!
the software602 (put www & .COM aaround that!) Suite is not bad - for a freebie (must register for spelcheck - still free) or buy/crack thesaurus & other components....

Somebody wanted a Photo editor - I remember people saying this is worth downloading for the editor alone!

I've used WordPerfect for 14 years now and would never want to switch. I agree with Luuve however that v.8 has a lot more snap to it than the newest versions. Over the years I've had Word and AmiPro also on my system just for compatability with other people's files, but if I want to produce anything even the least bit complicated, it's always wordperfect for me.
v8 is actually only one CD. It did come with a second but it was just an old version of DragonNS.

It's a really bad idea to use staroffice or openoffice. I tried them on linux, they simply suck. look like sh*it, and what's even worse, are uncomfortable and are not compatible with MS office documents. yes, I know, they claim to be compatible with office documents, but in fact, they are not, I have seen many posts by people complaining that their office documents are not opened properly/corrupted when opened in openoffice/staroffice. these programmes are just for people who have no money, but we can get MS office for free, so it's really the best solution to use office. It's not buggy, I have to admit that Word and Excel crash sometimes, but they always make a backup of the document, so you don't lose data. e.g., I was writing a term paper, and then all of a sudden word crashed, but it said it was backuping the file I was working on. Then I restarted word, loaded the document and all was ok, nothing was lost. It may take some time till you know how word and excel work, but still, MS word is the best application compared with others
