Motherboard Recommendation + Athlon XP 2000

HI. I'm still confused which motherboard to get :
#1 choice MSI MSI KT3 ULTRA VIA KT333
#2 choice EPOX EP-8KHA+ KT266A
#3 choice ABIT KX7-333 VIA KT333
I currently have AMD athlon XP 2000
Leadtek Geforce4 Ti 4200 64MB DDR
Enermax 431w. PSU
512 MB Crucial 2100 DDR.
Any PC enthusiast is welcome to recommend me one of this motherboards. thanks. Sako

Yes, I've heard lots of good things about the MSI KT3 Ultra...although the MSI just released the KT3 Ultra2 (with a better southbribge) a few weeks ago.

The EPOX EP-8KHA+ is a great overclocker, but lite on features. And the ABIT KX7-333 is good, but also lite on features.

Not to confuse you more but:
Another one to consider is the Asus A7V333. RAID, Firewire, USB 2.0 are just some of its good features. I have one and know several others that do as well...and not a single problem out of the box.

Thanks Dxkim but rather than spending extra cash for Asus , I would wait for MSI KT 400 chip which supports AGP 8x and some good features. All I know that it is always better to buy PC parts in early fall because new things usually doesn't appear in summer(USA). I never had MSI before and I don't know if it will outperform Epox 8kha+ .

I have that epox mobo & it works great for me, but they do have a newer one out now.
Personally I find the new shuttles & (doh! forget manufacturer but they produce) the purple ray mobos. lol
For price to bang ratio at least (they perform quite well).
From your choices I would probs go with the abit or msi (being that they are more upto date & will have longer bios revivals than the good old epox *but am not a big fan of msi yet).
Either way though, I think these 3 choices will be pretty good.

thanks Shadoe. I mean I'm not a great fan of MSI also but how can I be or not be a big fan of MSI since I haven't used any of their boards. Mostly I used Shuttle( you mentioned back in 1999 i had pentium 2 or 3 I don't even remember even it the Shuttle was VIA platform(funny). I'm not a critic but I don't like wasting $$ on crappy boards so maybe I should try MSI one day, maybe soon. thanks bud.

in bangladesh, athlon or duron processors are usually sold bundled with msi mainboards. so, having no other choice, i have assembled no less than 30 clone PCs with msi mainboards. i do not have or haven't recvd any complain on these m/bs (whatever build or version) so far. i may have been lucky, but i would recommend these freely, any time.

msi kt3 ultra and asus a7v333 are both very good boards, my personal opinion is the msi as it has been more stable in the machines i have built, i would recommend that you also use a msi geforce 4 ti with the machine as it utilises the speed very well:) :)

As PC2100 (if I'm not mistaken) is DDR266, that narrows the gap between the 266 and 333 solutions unless you later intend upgrading to DDR333 RAM

I've had good luck with Abit boards, so-so with older MSI, and had an Asus totally crap out on me. Call me biased, but the Abits have been solid. Have KT7E, KT7A-RAID, and the new AT7 RAID.

The AT7 has Firewire, USB1.1 and 2.0, 10/100NIC, 5.1 Surround Sound, 333/PC2700 support, multimedia header available (I got one - has 5 1/4 drive mount with front case accessible Firewire, USB2, sound, CF + Memory Stick+ SD readers).

Got mine with Athlon2000XP chip and (2) 512mb DDR2700 chips. Runs great, works well for video work.

Another vote for the Asus A7V333 board, got one in my main system and built about 30 more with this board and zero problems. ;) Hey, how many mobo's talk you through Post? :D The only other mobo IMHO that competes with this is the new Gigabyte 333 RAID board, fitted a couple of those and I must say it performs very nice indeed. :)

I knew about new board from MSI: K7N420 NVIDIA Pro, with great chipset and fine performance.
I want to know your opinion about this.

Another vote for Abit -- the KR7A i've got has been rock solid, and it effortlessly o'ced that Athlon MP 1400 to 1800.

Before that I had an ASUS A7M -- one of the very first ddr mobos. It was a never-ending hassle and wouldn't o'c a bit. Phooey. Then again, I've heard that the newest ASUS boards have been very good.

I'm waiting for a Hammer. Durn, I wish it was next spring already.
