Its all down to compression ratio at the end of the day and compression type used :)

The psp uses mp4 video which is a high quality compression used mainly for mobile /portable devices i use mp4 for my Sony Mobile phone :)

Also with psp the screen size is much smaller so the aspect does not have to be so great in quality as it would to fit a large screen t.v. :)

I would guess that mini dvd is using a higher compression, than normal dvd mini dvd no doubt has a lot less extras on it to make it fit :)

and yes you should be able to play mini dvds on a normal player :)

MiniDVDs are just smaller. Same DVD specs to record. That means about 20mins on a disk, unless you put VCDs on it. Then they will play in that little tray circle in your standard DVD player tray. I use 'em for short DVD slideshows and DVD-A (audio) for music. Also use for my PC to boot to install XP, run diags, live XP (WinPE), etc.

Btw, a "mini-DVD" can also be a CD with VIDEO_TS folder containing standard DVD VOB files (small though). These don't play in many DVD players, though.
