Mandrake 9.2 final

It's out since 15th of October for Mandrake Club users, now for common mortals as well...
The official Mandrake mirrors don't offer currently the ISO images yet, they are present only in the Athens National Polytechnical University servers

(probably by mistake- they were not supposed to be issued yet for common users)
Quite naturally, you will have great difficulties logging in- all allowed 1,000 users are there grabbing.
Good luck. Just checkback the normal Mandrake mirrors, I guess it will be there soon as well.
Suse 9.0 is out as well- if you decide to download it instead of buying it then good luck- some people that "got it" from ED2K already have a couple (or more) of nice porn CD's instead! :D

lmao on 56k that would suck big time lol !!!

its always better to get stuff like this from a reliable server not a naff p2p client or ... a nice friend with adsl who can post you it :)

fresch kernel, applications updates, and "Discovery" : for office applications and users without experience with Linux (like me :eek: )

So far it works well- for one thing the 9.2 RC2 networking problems seem solved. After updating from 9.1 the basic set of icons on the start menu went fishing, but this is not a major problem.
It features new kernel 2.4.22 (no 2.6.X yet...), Gnome 2.4.0 (KDE has stayed to 3.1.3). Koffice and Openoffice are still based on beta releases (1.3 beta3 and 1.1.0 RC4 respectively), but since OOo 1.1.0 final is very easy to install it doesn't matter much.
Unfortunately K3B version has stayed to 0.9 and not the 0.10.1 alpha (which is not an alpha at all, and has great DVD burning support), and urpmi is still a long way from what Mandrake envisions for their installation system.

Did u upgrade or just did a clean install?
Still don"t know what to do...is it safe to upgrade over 9.1?

OK, I will give you a slight "hint"...
After using this new "final" for some time, I blessed my wisdom of making that Acronis backup before... :D
In short, after exploring it a bit this final has BUCKETLOADS of problems, just pay a visit at Mandrakeforums and enjoy the angry reactions of registered Mandrake Club subscribers... they even treaten to sue Mandrake if they don't get their money back, and all that nice crap...
I am back at my upgraded 9.1, and perfectly happy with it.

Oh yes I did try a CLEAN (=dirty) installation... results were the same:
Basic KDE packet installs fine, but the rest of it kill lots of things.
-The normal keyboard laguage switch (right windows key for me, dunno which you have set...) does NOT work after upgrading, you have to use the KDE locales to do such a trivial thing...
-When setting OpenOffice to use a TrueType font as default (instead of that stupid localized fonts), OOo crashes almost at startup... no matter if you use the included OOo 1.1 RC4 or the 1.1 final.
-Programs that use GTK icons install "fine", but no icons are displayed...
Java JRE (1.4.2_01) works fine under Mozilla or Firebird, but crashes Konqueror- in fact: you have to logout to make Konqueror working again...
Now I am back at 9.1 and updates, and EVERYTHING is ticking like a clockwork... so I guess I won't touch this till fixed. Funnily enough 9.2 RC2 had WAY lesser problems, but the main one (= my PPPoE (inter)net connection could be properly set via third party programs and not MCC, which was not able to save settings...) was enough to kick that out.
By the way I have also got SuSE 9.0 pro, which I installed in my spare HD, and this baby just works PERFECTLY right out of the box... I guess the Mandrake guys need a hard kick in the ass to get a bit serious about their distro... Of course I could just use SuSE 9.0, but I prefer free software, and Mandrake 9.2 is just too buggy, while Debian Sarge is just too hard (at least for illiterates like me...)
