login names....

uhh i was wondering how do i open up my Administrator login name on the welcome screen when u start up??..how do i use my administrator login....
i know when i go into safeboot it pops up....but when i go back to my regular boot it dissappears....how do i use it permanently??..

For using it in windows, you have to create it manually.....the "safe mode"administrator account is created when XP is installed, for system troubleshooting purpose......however,if you installed XP yourself, your preferred username has admin rights too.
So there's no need to create a seperate admin account......you better create a seperate user account without admin rights to surf the web......your system will be less vulnarable for malware and hackers, because they need acces to your system files to execute their rubbish....very hard to do when you're logged in as normal user.... ;)

how do i do that??..

Go to control panel-->users and check what permissions your account has.....we can go further after we know that...:)

ok....i use to just change the computer name to administrator then the administrator login appears on my welcome screen....but that was for sp1....which my brother has....which i am on administrator now....but it doesnt work for sp2....well i went to the user accounts and typed in Administrator....but it said it already exists....but i dont c it in there....

more questions about admin accounts ...

I have a current login that i use all the time which is my nickname (VIPER) set as administrator , i still have the standard administrator account too ... what i want to do is change over to the administrator account and migrate/keep all my settings and shortcuts to nicknamed account and use the standard administrator account from now on !?

Reason for changing over is that ive had loads of problems with file shares with my current account on my LAN i found out that everything works fine in the ADMINISTRATOR account but not in my NICKNAME account !?

thanks in advance :)

Transfer all files of your C:\documents and settings\Viper profile into the admin account in the same directory....don't forget to enable "view system maps" and "view hidden folders" at your folder view options before making the transfer.....reboot,and try the admin login to see if everything works correctly...

1 thing I don't get......normally,for XP,the standard administrator account is only visible in safe mode, that's also why Tommy got the message that it already exists when he tried to create it.....it exists, but only viewable on the logon screen in safe mode
Is your administrator account visible in normal mode when you bootup?
AFAIK,only win 2K shows a standard administrator logon in normal mode.
If you're on XP,you better create a new admin account and transfer the settings of your old 1 to the new...
It could be that the standard admin account becomes viewable at logon in normal mode after you delete your "Viper" account, but I wouldn't take the risk... :D

Disable fast user switch (which is anyway obligatory, if you are concerned about security on XP) and change the logon procedure to the old NT type one (requiring alt+ctrl+del to insert the logon details). The Administrator account should now be available.

Just download TweakUI from MS and it will let you choose which users to show on the login/welcome screen...
