lets get this straight, what the best antivirus proggy?

I've been using AVG for quite a while without any problems and it does what you want.

Regular updates, Scans your e-mail and even monitors your system just in case a slimy little bugger tries sneaking in through Kazaa or something.

Best of all it is free and it doesn't hog your resources like Norton would. It just does the job...
Just remember any AV software its only as good as your last pattern file update though.

In my opinion its not the soft that you use that causes virus infection to happen or not but the lack of knowledge. Most people are not aware of the way that virus infect, what are the type, extension, ect ect, look at this site it as a good tutorial that you can even download, since I know better about computer viruses, I never had problem with those ( only once with the Snow White virus). Antivirus software are like condoms, you have your hown preference but they take some pleasure ressources away.

I agree knowledge is very important but realization and consistency are other important aspects that are often ignored. Most people know their virus database needs regular updating but many fail to do it as often as they should. Most people know their hard drives can fail at the most inopportune moment and, while they may have access to and often have their backup/restore programs installed, fail to do it regularly and get caught without a recent backup. All too often, much to our regret, we need to try to protect ourselves against our own stupidity. Once, at a time when I had had too little sleep, I replied "yes" to a "Format x:" and realized, ten seconds later, this was not what I wanted... I knew better but was stupid for a moment and, being a proud individual, it took me some time to admit having done such! Not something I would normally do but given enough time and usage, one will do stupid things in life! We often refer to those as "mistakes" or "errors"... This human trait is what led ancient Romans to coin "Errare humanum est"!
