Kazaalite is not free

The best alternative to mIRC is X-chat- opensource:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/xchat/
Shareaza is free and very good, and you might also try an Mldonkey client, although their cores (especially the windows ones) definitely have some rough edges. But still the mldonkey core supports many protocols, and you can control it from ANYWHERE via a normal web browser.

Rest in peace kazaalite!!:D Turns out if you have a old version as of now you can still download for free but if you need a new verision you will be paying. So I say it now this is the death of kazaalite just like napster. You have to love the RIAA and if they get their way they want to put people in jail for dowmloading mp3's!!
Just some news you might find interesting.
RIAA Wants to Hack Your PC

I you heard the song (MP3) going around with the riaa phone numbers in it may you should give them a phone call and tell them how you feel.
RIAA Phone Call MP3

Going off topic. but that XCHAT Win98 screenshot is BIZARRE - most programs can only do transparency in WinXP/2K.
Other programs too which use the Gnome Toolkit for their GUI are transparent under 9X... The basic con of GTK built programs are that they are sort-of-ugly, but this shouldn't be a problem for a chat client. the biggest problem should be passing your mIRC scripts to Xchat- although the proggy is fully scriptable.

I was going to try Mldonkey as I was impressed by the protocols it supported, but then I got put off a little by the Windows cores that are said to be buggy. The GUI could be better too. It's definitely a program to keep an eye on.

Now Shareaza. This is an impressive piece of software, supporting all those protocols. When I first used it, I was expecting it to crash, especially when I simultaneously connected to the Gnutella 1,2 and eDonkey2K networks, but no, it was stable as can be. There is so much inforrmation about transfers etc too, but it doesn't feel cluttered at any time, even when in Power mode.

I could imagine that Shareaza wouldn't find it too difficult to integrate FastTrack network support too. Considering Sharman's going to have Magnet Link support (although it's supposedly a little propriety) in KaZaA, and Shareaza already has support for Magnet Links and such, they'd probably be able to figure something out :).

hey least ya can still get add free kazza for a erm pricey sum of $29.95    hmmmmm i think NOT ! lol

there no doubt will be some other program developed soon enough :)
