Kazaa !!!!

Since the death of AudioGalaxy, I decided to give Kazaa lite and winMX a go and they are not too bad for MP3 files.

On the Kazaa side of things I decided to use it to download a ripped version of GTA3. Using my trusty 56K it took me a very long time to get this 204Mb file. It chugged in at a 7Kb/s transfer rate and I eagerly awaited giving this game a try out.

Checked for viruses/trojans/etc.....clean, so I ran the self .exe zip file.....

With a file name of "GTA3" what did I end up with???

Only NHL 2000.....wonderful !!!!

So I think I'll stick to MP3's, as they don't take so long to get and most of the time the song matches the file name.

I've had the odd virus/worm come through on these P2P apps, AV software always picks up on them but I don't understand the mentallity of some people, trying to pass on viruses or worms or incorrectly naming files... but i guess they have to get their kicks some how

@ DREEMTHEEF its common to get rubbish files on kazaa its always a good idea to check if its multi threaded/sourced to check each one as some will reveal that its a missnamed file its not such a bad thing on adsl but unfortunately you found out the hard way not mp3s are missnamed too and moreso movie /divx files !! note some files are there by the RIAA and movie honchos sharing them to pee us off and try put us off i posted an article here regards to files missnamed etc !! i just usually hoverthe pointer over each link in turn to see the info to get an idea if it will be worth the hassle of downloading with movies its good to check with release sites also related articles of divx/vcd databases and releases are to be found elsewhere on this forum

Yeah VIPER_1069 I did go for a multi threaded file but it was still a duff one!!!

Some had this title "GTA3 full" "GTA3 ISO" but were only about 35Mb in size....some compresson!!...LOL. So I didn't bother with those, as they were obviously just junk. I thought that 204Mb was realistic, multi threaded...yep I'm onto a winner here but as you say VIPER_1069 I was wrong...oh well, live and learn.

Just pi$T me off after all that d/loading on a 56K.
5 > 7 Kb/s ain't too bad on a dial up but it's not b/band or anywhere near, so I have to be a bit choosy when I start them mammoth d/loads.

yeah 5>7 is excellent for a 56k most i got was 5 k max now im on adsl i could never live without it ya sorta get used to a minimum of 22k and a max of 64k a file its worth the investment in the end
i have the ripped version of GTA 3 its approx 800 meg unpacked and installed including movies and packed its approx 300 meg including movies !!!

i always expand all threaded articles and read each on for the description and the file name to make sure or at least try make sure they are not fake !! altho even this cannot be trusted unfortunatly !

i have used kazaalite to download mainly movies and i guess i am lucky that i havent had any fake movies ....yet; may be fake files 's more prevalent with software??

i found that for mp3, kazaa doesnt have the real rare stuff (i like trance music) like good ol' audiogalaxy if anyone knows of a better p2p source that's almost as good as ag, please post it here

Viper I know exactly what you mean. 5 for me was a good day.
I could never go back to a 56k modem after having the benefits of cable fro about 4-5 months now. On cable I consider 20 to be slow

At the moment I'm in Newcastle upon Tyne, on the outskirts, North East UK.

I don't always get 5 > 7Kb/s sometimes 4.5Kb/s sometimes 6Kb/s but on average, when I've got a good connection all the way through, I get about 6Kb/s.

I use Freeserve Anytime and the max' connection speed is 48K, which I get most of the time or at the very least 46.6K.

Some sites I use I must have a really good connection going on, as I get 7 > 8Kb/s.
The fastest transfer rate I have ever had was just over 18Kb/s, that was flying and I thought my modem was about to melt...LOL.

A number of times I've had 12 > 13Kb/s.....just depends I guess.

FlashGet v1.2 is my download manager.
Biggest file downloaded so far, 284Mb, AutoCAD 2002.

I did notice that when connected to Kazaa another person 'sucked' a copy of a song from my hard drive in just over 1 minute. I had just got the song and it took me about 15 minutes to get, so god knows what speed they were connected at but I didn't think my modem could go that fast...LOL...must have been an ADSL or cable user.

My wife lives in Minnesota USA (and so will I once the INS pull their heads out of their A$$es) and over there we have a crap connection but that is due to the phone line. We get connected at a "cable melting" 23K with a transfer rate of about 2Kb/s !!!
So when I finally get myself over there, I think a tree will have to fall on the line, requiring Qwest to come and install a brand new one as the neighbour who recently had a tree come down on their line, requiring a new one to be installed, they get similar results as to what I get over here in the UK.

Yep, I would love a fast connection. When I see all these transfer rates of 60Kb/s and 90Kb/s or even 200Kb/s.....WOW!!!! "YES PLEASE"

It takes me about 3 minutes/Mb and I see 13 seconds/Mb on these fast connections... *DROOL*.....LOL.

seems odd that they got the file off you fast bud yer upload speed will forever remain the same 33.6k can be less than that but never more on a 56k modem f.y.i

@ the end of the day with modem its down to a) hardware modem not win modem internal or external
b) line quality (crap line crap speeds)
c) line gain (ring them ask them what the gain is (too much increases noise levels to less crap speeds )
d) how busy the net is day or night depending on location(global)
e) isp if yer on a busy isp then yer gunna get slower transfers more users using the net @ certain times on yer own isp decreases yer speed as yer prolly sharing a server modem at there end with upto possibly 100-150 other users !

this is thro sloggin on modem for far too long lol !! and telephone engineers and isp's gettin sick of me gettin them to sort my problems out !!!

problems since i got ADSL ( 0 ) except user operator errors lol (ME MESSIN UP LMAO) doh !!

My average connection speed is about 6KB/Sec with 56K dial-up it don't stop me wanting broadband tho!!

One day I saw a song on kazaa titled "Mix of Guns & Roses songs" it was a 50mb file with a load of that artists songs in one mp3 I would just have to break it down and burn it.

Of course I started the download and went out to work, came back and found out it was not guns and roses but micheal jackson I don't know about any of you but Im not a MJ fan, ill stick to 5mb mp3s and previewing them half way through.

here you go guys, a snap shot of flashget d/load manager getting a copy of LapLink Gold for me.

I realize that when a d/load first starts it can be at a fast transfer rate but then slow to and level off at alot slower but this one started at about 8 and levelled off at about 7.4Kb/s.

Oh yeah VIPER_1069, that file that was allegedly sucked out of my system at hyper fast speed, my mistake, the upload was cancelled after about one minute by the other end. I just glanced at the screen and thought the upload was completed.... *doh*

Hey Viper!!!...don't go rubbing it in.

Once I move across the pond I'll be hooked up at a

cable melting super hyper speed of 23K !!!!!

The phone cables along our street are fine if you want to talk but everyone who dials up from their computer gets this awful connection speed and I doubt Qwest will be hurrying to do anything about it....and to rub more salt into the wounds...

..broadband ain't available there...not ever by the looks of things, as it's a huge long road and the houses are spaced well apart, so I doubt even if the whole street payed up for broadband whether they would get their money back on the installation costs!!

Wouldn't care, you walk about 200 yards and turn onto a side street, yep, they get hooked up at 52K....there is no damn justice in the world Well if there was I'll have a T3 connection thank you very much

So please no more of this 10 jets at 60K stuff.....LOL
