ISO Recorder Power Toy
Description
ISO Recorder Power Toy is a UI component that allows to use CD-Recording capabilities of Windows XP® to record ISO images and copy CD to CD – a piece of functionality missing in Windows XP®
The ISO Recorder itself does not record CDs but instead uses existing OS features. Some of the interfaces it uses are not fully documented by Microsoft and as such are subject to change in the future.
This software works on Windows XP only . It was tested with retail build of Windows XP (Home and Professional)

Installation and Setup
ISO Recorder is distributed as an .msi file – ISORecorderSetup.msi. To install it download the file onto your computer, right-click and select “Install”.
To uninstall ISO Recorder use Control Panel/Add Remove Software.
Usage
Recording ISO images
Right-click on an ISO file and select “Copy Image to CD”. The wizard will open up. The file name should appear in the “File name” edit box. If, for some reason, wizard cannot use currently selected file or CD recorder, an error message will be provided and “Next” button will be disabled.
Press the “Next” button. Recording operation can be terminated by pressing “Cancel”. Note that terminating the actual recording operation can take up to several minutes.
When copy is completed, the wizard will display the “Finish” page.
Creating ISO images
Right-click on an CD drive icon in My Computer and select “Copy CD to Image File”. The wizard will open up. Select the target file. Press the “Next” button. Wizard will copy the CD into an ISO file.
When copy is completed, the wizard will display the “Finish” page.
Copying CDs
Right-click on a CD drive icon in “My Computer” and select “Copy Disk to CD”. The wizard will open up. The source CD letter should be selected automatically. If, for some reason, wizard cannot use currently selected CD drive or CD recorder, an error message will be provided and “Next” button will be disabled. Note that CD currently cannot be copied “in-place”, i.e. using CD-Recorder as both source and destination.
Copying of Audio CDs is not supported either.
Release history
1.0 (11/10/01) First "open" release.
New features:
1. When copying ISO file to CD the temporary file is not created anymore.
2. Added "Copy CD to Image File" feature. Allows to create ISO file out of existing CD. Also usable when you need to copy a CD but only have one drive.
3. Added support for Windows XP themes.
0.5 (10/20/01) Pre-release. First GUI build.
Known problems
1. Insufficient error handling. There are potentially situations when ISO Recorder can crash. This will be addressed in the future releases
2. No “in-place copy”. Although there should be no problem with copying CD using the recorder drive as both source and destination, this scenario is not yet supported. It is planned to be supported in the future
3. Canceling the recording process takes a long time, sometimes several minutes. This is an inherent problem. It appears that standard XP recording component just works like that.

There is no guarantee, express or implied, associated with this software. Use it on your own risk. Author shall not be liable for any damage resulted from the use of this software including but not limited to the blank CD media rendered unusable (“coaster”).
