Is this for real (Urgent if it is)

Grabbed from the normally respectable CDRINFO forum (though from a 5-poster with no real history)

This is probably RUBBISH - The time difference to PST (UTC-8 ?) is NOT in my favour, unless I check with breakfast on Sunday

you CAN, of course, get a 30 day trial edition ANYTIME.

I think the guy is probably on a wind-up !

this must be a joke. WinOnCD 5 PE is still sold in stores, even if v. 6 is out, they won't give it away.

Get yourself a CD Key - and we'll argue the legitimacy of sharing a DOWNLOAD later!
PS. If you refresh page, you tend to get a new key - not sure if the whole thing ends up tied to your name, your machine etc. - I swear I discovered that by accident, when I thought my download program had screwed up

Vbox installer = 3/4 meg - Delivery (maybe more) = 80 meg
Maybe you only need to complete the 3/4 meg stage before time-up?

I visited the page too and there are these:
Welcome to the free Download of WinOnCDT 5 Power Edition (Downloadable) (valid only between 12/14/2002 10:00 PM to 12/15/2002 2:00 AM. All times are Pacific.)
Please provide the following information.

It worked for me...for what its worth. I have never tried this software before. As far as I can tell it is all legit, I installed it with no problems. Just download it to an empty folder and all the files are put there.

Installed it displays as WinOnCD 5 Power Edition and is version 5.05.862.

I accidentally closed my first window after printing my key...I lost my download link. I then logged back in with the same addy and it gave me the exact same key, I compared it to my print. I refreshed just like LTR12101B did and it just kept spitting the same key-screen back to me.

It seems all good, running on XP Pro...but remember, nothing is free. Down it for yourself...it worked for me.

later...:D

In my case the installer it's just 750Kb and it seems you can resume later using the link that the installer creates.
The key changes every time you do an F5 indeed; we'll see if the key is created according to the name and mail you provide. Something feels funny about all this. Why are they so "generous"? Maybe giving out your mail so they can spam the hell out of you with offers is fair enough to Roxio people? :D

The licence you see on completion refers to the key displayed when you download - but no idea if tied to:

The final download (80Mb) has an autorun.inf and so it looks like you could burn it to CD.

You MAY UNCHECK the "send me info" box and you STILL get your registration - and it seems the reg is displayed and downloaded, so fake email addresses might work.

WoCD 5 is superceded by version 6 now, so they may be expecting some upgraders - I would perhaps expect at least a one-time upgrade offer, even perhaps if you say no to info.

It can't be as bad as FRESHDEVICES - who update things by .01 and then send an ad-loaded update notification!

Worth "$39.95"? - is any software ever worth more than it bargain-bins at?

I dont know that much about the app or its installation process, but after the download finished, it displayed the key I received at the beginning of the process and stated that this was my key. It had a bunch of registration info already filled in on the screen it was displaying.

Im not sure if the key is integrated/attached to the install however, because I had to input it again during the install. So I dont know if other keys would work...

It works fine so far...just a little leary of "free" offers though. Im sure that account I used will get blasted...

All very nice & there is a post on this by cequadrat (sic)

But it dosent change the fact the S/ware is nowhere near the best!!!

Fox Mulder just remember site's that ask for your email details like Roxio or where one needs to download a demo or free program you can always use a dummy email this way you don't get spam mail from them.
To test Roxio out last nite I used roxioo@hot..... still did not d/l program I'm happy using what I've got.
:D

I printed and "Backed Up" the download-end Licence display (Back Up makes a desktop file "Recover Winon......", which presumably holds this info)

Printed, not much extra detail, nothing unuiquely identifying other than the key.

I think I'll burn it to CD, and try installing from there - as I really don't want to keep an 80Mb install hanging around.

WinOn CD may not be the greatest, but this imported CEQUADRAT product is a head and shoulders above ROXIO's own ... imported COREL product - can these guys do NOTHING of their own - other than spoiling what they get?

So I now have
An old ECDC 3.5 (with drive)
A full ECDC4 (a long and boring story to that)
An OEM Nero 5.5 (with new drive)
A full WinOnCd 5

Now somebody here hates Nero, and somebody hates anything ROXIO, so I should be able to find a balanced answer

the only thing slightly any good from roxio is the photo thing.
i got the win on cd 6,if looks could kill:D it completly messed up the aspi, ended up using the good old nero.
fire burner kept on giving me disk that was of no use to any one or thing.damaged disk or unreconised format:confused:
tried to roll back drivers & restore, but still no good.even disk that had been working properly before were starting to go funny.
wouldnt boot in straight away ect.
had to reformat in the end & yet i have a mitsumi cdrw what has never given me any troubles.
stick to what youve got,too right.
parrot man

Yes agree with ya daveml.
I've always said if it works 4 you so B it never mind what I or others may say. To this very day I'm still using Winoncd 3.8 and I have had the full version of Winoncd5 since it came out. Version 3.8 does what I needed it to do and why should I change?
LTR12101B the best thing to do is try.

Yep it was for real, they emailed me about posting the news on cdrtimes, and if they could advertise in the forum, i said it was fine, free stuff is always cool !
This wont be the end of it acording to there email to me, they plan to do this again, maybe with the same software, maybe with something different, who knows, but keep your eyes on the cdr news sites (they emailed a few different sites i think besides mine) because no doubt they will make more offers soon.

And 3 cheers for you sir! - since you appear to be the original keeper of this gem of information - that appears to be where it was radiating from..

How can a greater degree of credibility be achieved next time - you saw my track on it here .. from the multiposting at CDRINFO, I thought it WAS a hoax - then a newsgroup message pointed in the direction of CDRTimes - the only site I've been to which made a "news" posting and referred to any source.
