Is a mod chip required on the xbox to play back up?

lets say I've got an ISO on my HD that magically appeared.

if I burn this to a dvd-r , do I need a mod chip for the thing to
load/boot?

rather ask first before I waste a disc.

so not a single format of dvd-r is supported by the xbox dvd rom? are you sure? what if i made a 1:1, bit for bit copy with my computer?

edit: ok reading some other replies i've found out that due to encryption or something you would have to rip from the xbox to the computer and then burn. assuming i DID do that, would the dvd play in a non-modded xbox?
