internet explorer/xp

I hope someone can help me. i'm running xp pro operating system and iv'e had alot of trouble with internet explorer 6. i won't go into them all now just the most recent.

I can not access the internet directly through ie6, unless i run through a proxy! i don't know what the hell is wrong. i can access my email accounts and other programs can also connect , but ie6 or any other browser won't have any of it.!?!

The strangest thing is i got so annoyed at this that i re-installed xp and re-formatted the drive to be on the safe side no less that 3 times but the problem persists. I've re-installed xp many times due to problems but iv'e never had this problem. Anybody any idea's???????????????

are you using a firewall, maybe the incoming port 80 is blocked?
just guessing here :)

Anyway, the only way you be sure that IE is giving you problems is by getting another browser, (Opera?) and see if it works...

thanks for the advice jojitd but i did not have a firewall installed at the time.
my connection seems back to normal now after two days, leading me to think that maybe it was a service provider problem which has been rectified. cheers all the same though.:)
