InterActual Player..on some recent DVD`s?

Just got the official retail 2-disc "HULK" (Yeah,it`s not THAT bad-especially the "dog fight" scene (quite good)-Can`t help feeling it could have been better though..)After using it on the old home player,I noticed there were some additional DVD-ROM only features which can only be accessed on your PC.Booted it up (initially it wouldn`t play and it claimed our old friend MacroVision wasn`t present..)and it automatically tried to load this InterActual Player (which ain`t that good..) and connect to the net..Does this player contain some sort of spyware? Does it put any "dodgy" files on your system, rendering programs like DVDDecryptor etc. useless? More info anyone?

Errr...Yeah,right. . ..But what is its REAL function??

Hmmm ... talkin to yourself ere mate . But I too was interested in the answer. I too have avoided it's installation. If you have a firewall installed , then it will soon let you know if it does want to send info out etc. Then you/we will know.
Will it really let you do more than .. say ... Power DVD. ?
Is it the only way to access the extra DVD-Rom stuff ?

hehehe...Yes m8-I was doing a multitude of things a) Talkin` to myself b) Thinkin` out loud c)Callin` out to the good people of our forum for some input on this, but who knows?-maybe they haven`t seen a REAL DVD for some time LMAO!! :D :D
Back to the problem in hand-it installs a front end with a skin connected with the movie in question, but you can change back to the basic skin..It looks like a movie viewer cum simple browser, not a fully featured player like PowerDVD.It kept asking me to register it i.e your name and your Postal/Zip Code..I suspect you can only access the DVD-ROM features using this method (links to exclusive/secret sites connected with the movie?) With, hopefully, some nice exclusive freebies (but here's the rub-nobody gives anything away for free-they always want something back in exchange-Even freeware`s not totally free-You`re "beta testing" for the freeware authors!)
I`ve concluded that it may a form of registering the movie-proof of ownership?
Sounds dodgy to me,but I`ll try it fully anyway-see where it takes me.After all,I`ve nothing to hide...the damn thing`s legal anyway... :p :p

Don't install it!You will never be able to play a backup again!

LOL! :D We buy many dvd's for the kids,I too have had this player want to install itself.I chose no,because I figured it would be crapware. After installing WinDvd with a burner purchase I never got the player prompt again.

You can experiment for us. I just noticed this thread today, and you seemed to be curious about this software. ;) You might get extra info like websites pertaining to the movie...and arghh...email about upcoming releases. Advertising is likely included somewhere.

Why,thanks every1 for (finally) responding to this thread concerning this potentially important issue.I suspected this "player" is dodgy...If it`s gonna stop me backing up my legally purchased retail DVD`s then I`m not interested in these so-called exclusive DVD-ROM only features, thank you  .But as I said-I`m gonna attempt it anyway..and see what happens..and doing a service for the great people of these forums...(trumpet fanfare plays in background..) ;)

Wouldn`t mind so much if it was the chance to get some free DVD`s from the likes of Warner Bros,NewLine,Universal and the like-but that ain`t very likely is it? By the way-I`ve also got official legal copies of WinFast DVD (rebadged WinDVD 3),PowerDVD 4,etc..which were included with hardware purchases also. But I`m currently using the one that`s built into Nero 6-"Nero ShowTime"

Thanx VIPER-I suspected this thread was worth postin`but it was a bit slow pickin` up steam....
Yeah,If you remember on some of my earlier threads,I too now have a standalone player-it knocks playback on a PC into a cocked hat! There`s nothing quite like viewin`em on a 28" w/scrn TV and audio plugged into a decent component audio system,(even if mine is only downmixed 2 channel stereo.. :( but I`m also usin` the inbuilt TV stereo sound at the same time too :) )(using a 10m scart lead and splitter) with the volume cranked up! Great stuff!!!!! :D

Just kidding about installing it BTW.Probably just adware/player anyways. :D
I installed-registered it (bad move..? Who knows...)-removed it..Now to clear EVERY single reference to it out of the Registry..Thank god I`ve got some help on this.. I`ll use Registry Editor included in TuneUp Utilities2003...Glad I bought it..Hmmm..TuneUp.Does what Norton U does, but with much less bloat..TuneUp Utilities2003.....Remember THAT thread? How time flies....
