Installing windows on a laptop w/ separate drives

I am trying to get windows 98 SE on a laptop (blank hard drives) with swapable drives. Meaning only one drive can be in the laptop at a time; either the CD-Rom or the Floppy. Any work around for using the start up disk to wait until the CD-Rom drive is in the machine?

Nope, it's not gonna happen. I have the same setup with my toshiba laptop with the hotswap bay. I ended up buying and external floppy drive. You might as well get it now because I had the same prob when I also tried to run some progs in dos. You need the cd-rom and the floppy at the same time. I also tried the swap trick. "Let the laptop recognize the cd-rom and when it does take it out quick and put in the floppy drive". It didn't work. I got a nice titainium drive at tigerdirect for $59.
