IE6 Build numbers not updating in registry after successful install

Hey all,

I'm having a weird problem... Originally I had WinXP with the Build 2600.1813 (I think) of IE6. Microsoft released IE6 SP1 build 2813.3000 and then lowered it to lower number 2800.xxxx builds so I had to replace the registry with 2600.xxxx to get the 2800.xxxx to install. However, the problem is the installer installs everything but doesn't update the build number in the registry, anyone have any ideas how to fix this?

nah, format is never the answer to anything unless you don't want to try... I'm a Astrophysicist and the last time I formatted was 8 years ago... I always have problems and end up fixing it within a few days... Anyways, what I did was Add/Remove programs... MS Internet Explorer 6 SP1 and then restore previous config which seems to have saved all my settings and plugins and it put it back at 2600.2813. Then it rebooted and then I installed 2800.1082 and all is well... I guess the installer never did the install full way originally as it didn't do the reboot stage and even when I manually rebooted, it didn't do the Windows update screen part during bootup. Now it works fine :)

heh... Me too. I hate the idea of reformatting since I will always find a solution one way or another and usually it's by trial and error on my own because no one knows the answer :)
