There are only TWO valid basic RAID configurations if you want speed and reliability.
1. A four-drive, Raid 0+1 set
2. A three drive, Raid 5 set (or use the 4 and have I drive more capacity than above
A pure disk striped (Raid 0) has double the failure potential of a single drive.
On the other hand - an IDE RAID with redundancy (including Raid 1 mirroring, or Raid 5 distributed parity) has a fault torance advantage over a single drive of any type.
