I think I'm going mad?

We have a new (well new to us) computer in the family.

Loaded with Windows ME, it has one 52X CD-ROM drive and one Liteon CD-CDRW drive.

The problem is, Nero and NTI can both see all the drives as the choice for source drives in the drop down list but they cannot see either of the drives in the choice for the burning drive. Obviously there is only one choise but I cannot get it to see anything at all.

The strange thing is, both CloneCD and Burn at once see all the drives and can offer the choice for either function.

I would like to use just CloneCD and NTI on this machine as it is for a beginner to computing and to copy a whole disc CloneCD is
good and he would be able to pick up NTI fairly quickly I think.

I have made sure that aspi is loaded and have put in Force aspi as well but it doesn't cure the problem.

Does anyone have an answer to this problem please?

Which Aspi U need 4.60

Try a clean Reinstall of your burning proggies but make sure U root out the rubbish left in the registry before you install again

Yes, got 4.60 in there and aspi check says it's OK.

I've done a search for all uninstalled file names in Windows and rebooted and searched through the registry for all associated files and rebooted and still the problem persists.

I just cannot get either Nero or NTI to show me a CD-RW to burn on yet Burn at Once and CloneCD clearly show the CD-ROM drive
and the Liteon. Windows shows both drives as well in My Computer folder.

Thanks for your reply poacher, any more ideas or anyone else that can offer a few clues I'd be very grateful.

go to the burning progs sites and check your burners are supported for the version of software u have.
U may need an update.

Yep that could be it daveml, thanks.

I'm away now for a few days but I'll get straight on it next week as quick as I can.

I'll let you know the outcome what ever it is.

Meanwhile, if anyone has any further thoughts about this problem I'd be very glad to hear them.

Thanks.

Well the Nero was bundled with the Liteon but the NTI is mine V5.0.8 and I've downloaded the upgrade to take it to V5.1.29 so I'll see if that at least gets the NTI working.

I would have thought that if the software was bundled with a new drive then it should at least work with that drive.

Anyone else had this sort of hassle with a new drive?

Thanks Duracell for your input.

The NTI will most probably need getting the latest .bdb (burner database) file from NTIUS site, and putting it to the program directory, overwriting the older one.
I don't know about Nero, I don't use it.

I'll have a look for that scarecrow, thanks, and yes, I would rather have the NTI working than the Nero.

No not yet, as this is a beginners computer I thought I'd start him off with something that I new to be fairly easy to understand.

Is Record Now Max a fairly easy program for a beginner to understand? But I'll try it, if you think, anything to get him started burning and stop the whinging!!

Thanks ZoZekool.

I use bundled nero(ArtecWRR482448.No Probs, apart from not being able 2 record reliably above 32x.Updated does the same.Made sure 2 shut down other running tasks & progs, but it fails either at the start or half way through.(With 48speed rated phillips cdr's)Any Idea's...?

banzibaby

disable buffer underrun protection in Nero options and burning dialog, to enable full speed burning;

if it doesn't help, try this:

check the registry key [HKLM\SOFTWARE\Ahead\Nero - Burning Rom\Info]; look there for the entry "Serial5"; write down to paper your Artec bundled serial;

uninstall Nero completely; reboot

install the latest Nero version; reboot

run Nero, choose register, type in your Artec bundled serial, close Nero, run it again and try the max. burning speed;

Grateful thanks to all those who have replied, I will get to it next week and try all your suggestions.

A bit busy with other things just now but I will report back.

Thanks again.

Many Thanx Duracell.Will try it out & see what happens.I seem 2 be in the minority in that i used ECD Creator right up untill 5.All my direct cd discs that worked fast as before then started 2 crawl taking up 2 3 mins 2 open(If it even managed that : )The artec manual talks about just link & also justspeed, but in all versions only the first was there.Any answers gratfully appreciated.Thanks again : )

Thanks for the info Duracell. I haven't tried burning at max speed yet so it's good to know what I can try in case I encounter the same problem. What exactly is accomplished by re-entering the serial number?

Will try it 2.thanxAlways had probs with nero even with old burner(mitsumi4x2x8x But would copy ANY disc u through at it : )Ditto bout SN???
