I have a LITTLE problem

HI EVEryOne!!!This is a about win-HD.....

I have a LITTLE problem:
Today I have put into my PC a friend’s HD because he has had some pb (some cluster was corrupted…) and we want try to save the file before format the disc.
But when I start my PC it doesn’t see my HD (a seagate 20.4Gb 7200 UDMA 100) as primary master but his HD (an old 3.4 Gb) as master….
I’ll have try more configuration of master – slave device but nothing….
So I have disconneted my friend’s HD and…. My HD doesn’t work!!!
Now the logic partition work (I have win2k on this…) but primary (c: with ME) tell me that file system is invalid.
I open Partition magic and it tells me that there is a geometry error… WHAT IS?
I have used pm info and I read:
“Info: Begin C,H,S values were large drive placeholders.
Info: End C,H,S values were large drive placeholders.
Actual values are:
28579635 0 00 14176 14 1 0B 19762 15 63 28579698 11261502
Error #105: Partition didn't begin on head boundary.
ucBeginHead expected to be 0 or 1, not 14.
Error #108: Partition didn't end on cylinder boundary.
ucEndHead expected to be 31, not 15.”

Can be that I set something wrong on BIOS (HDD auto detection)?
The only solution is formating all HD and reinstall all progr????There is a way to reinstall only ME????

Thanks for HELP!!!

Bye

Hi bud.Welcome to the forum! It sounds to me that when you installed your friend's hard drive windows accepted it as the primary master. The information is still stored in the memory. Now it is searching for his hard drive, resulting in a conflict.

I'm not 100% sure on this,so maybe you should wait for more input.

You might have to clear the memory(usually by removing the mainboard battery for a few minutes). You need to get a record of ALL bios settings before doing so,because bios defaults will be applied when you replace the battery/restart.You need a record of all the original bios settings. That should allow windows to re-discover your hard drive again.Your hard drive needs to be in it's original position/configuration,eg...primary master.Again I'm not 100% sure on this drastic of a measure.Did you already change any settings in the bios?

ThankS!
Yes I have change some setting in Bios "HDD auto detection" but now I have reset all like before....
But I don't understand how my first partition can be corrupted if OS wasn't opened?!?!?

I'm downloading OS2000.. I'll try!
Pokopiko why do u say that PM doesn't work fine? I use it since 2 years with no pb... also my friends... what are the different with System commander deluxe?

Bye and thanks to help me!

FOR Pokopiko

I've tried to install the OSL2000.... this is the report....
It also says that it can't have "exclusive access" (this is the translation of"accesso esclusivo" in italian: I hope the signification is the same!) to disc.....

What can the problem be?

I have tried to do what Pokopiko tells me but after to do the boot from floppy (win 98) it start scandisk and it find many files corrupt and (after the creation of a Undo disc) it try to repair, but the situation doesn't change:
win ME doesn't start (I have did this process two times, with the same result)
Do u think the solution can be to format C: and reinstall win ME? If I do this must I reinstall win2K also(it is on a logic partition not on another primary)?Must I do some particular process?

Thanks to help !!!!

The pb was about a MB setting... a friend has had tha same pb with my MB and he suggests me the solution!
