I dun know---- I wound up defragging D and AOK. C then said cannot write to the HD. Well, after a minute etc I started to restore a backup but Ghost said no go SO FORMAT and restore. All I neded was a HUGE 20 min antivirus update.
THIS time I copied FORMAT from WinMe to floppy and hope that is the right MS-DOS version to run vs FDISK first.
I have no real idea what hit me. All I can say is I need a MORE recent backup now. I can spare the CDs every few weeks as habit.
