I don't think the problem is just with XP

My computer is all Kaflooie and puting on XP seems to be only one of the problems. The drive from my old computer was added to this one. It is now drive D. Drive c has only 255 mb of free space left on it, and drive d has 23.2 GB free. I have moved everything that I can get to move over to d. I still get pop ups saying that drive c is running out of space, to delete unused files.
I don't want a separate c&d drive, I want them combined.
I can no longer get IE to run, and my CD-RW once again doesn't work.
Would I be better off just pulling my files, tearing this thing down and re-formatting?
If you have an answer, remember please, unless the language is simple or you include definitions I have no idea what you are talking about. ;)

It seems like you have moved system files from your C: drive to the D: drive and this has screwed up your system or maybe your system was already in his way to chaos, anyway the best thing to do for you right now if you don´t want to have complications is to move all your personal files to the D: drive and then format and do a fresh install of your system in the C: drive just be sure that before formating you had backed up all your data and when formating be sure wich drive you´re formating, if you don´t want to fall into errors you can disconnect your D: drive before formating so the only drive present is the one that you want to format.

When you´re up and running again I recomend you to leave your D: unit just for storage this way the system won´t mess around with routes.

Thanks. I think all that is on D drive are personal files and programs. All the microsoft and windows programs are on C. In fact, with disk piecharter, Windows is taking up 43% of C Drive.

I thought so. Oh well, it's not like there is anything else to life except this anyway! ;) **giggle**
Long as the anti-depressants keep working I should be OK.

Don't forget that even even if you "delete" files, they are still their: windows just move them to the recycle bin. You need to empty it to see your thrue free space... Could be worth it to double check...

I have to keep running the disk clean-up, and by habit I usually empty the recycle bin every time I use it. Now I am also without sound. I did a virus scan...nothingI think there is a mad doctor in here somewhere, slowly amputating parts!

Maybe a worm... I once heard some years ago that those viruses could replicate itselfon the hd eating up spaces... But a good AV software would have seen it...

I'd go with a format...

Merci tout si beaucoup de pour vos données. J'ai pensé j'ai eu besoin d'un remettre en format, mais c'était serviable pour entendre quelques autres gens consentent. Lentement, donc lentement nous apprenons des choses.

"Thank you so much of for your data. I thought I needed one to give in format, but it was obliging to hear some other people agree. Slowly, therefore slowly we learn from the things."

U gotta love them google translations :p

I would agree Janie, back up Ur stuff & then format, if U need help with that, just ask :)

BaNzI :D

Didn't want everything to be too easy. Guess I'll have to go for the chinese next! ;)
Would anyone like to run me through step by step simple instructions on how to do this reformat?
Also, I have the discs for Compaq recovery cd, Compaq quick restore 1&2, which have Windows ME on them, and HP sysyem recovery which has Win98. The c drive on here had the HP on it, and the D drive which was whisked away from my Compaq that took a dive had ME. I want to end up with XP. What do I use? :mad: >>> :confused: >>> :rolleyes: >>> :) >>> :p >>> :D >>> ;)

remember the drive size of "C" and "D";
so you can select the right "C" for formating in XP's formating dialog;

Is there some way to make them one and the same?
in Win 2000 and XP you can set up a drive as folder into an other one; (don't know the exact english term, in german it's called "Laufwerk als Ordner Bereitstellen"; )
you can configure this in Windows' "Drive Management" after installing the OS;
e.g. you can setup your old "D" as folder "Data" at your old and new system drive "C";

Hmmm, i wud use the newer (& bigger) drive for the OS (winxp) and the smaller 1 for backup purposes. The newer drive is supposed to b quicker :)
