How to Remove the CD writing software in XP?

I am trying to remove the cd writing progz that came standard in win xp, I would like to kill it off, and then install the Roxio EZ cd creator instead....
I dont see anything in the Add / remove Programs about the micro$oft software...went to Help, no luck....went to System, and looked at the cd/dvd writers, nothing on the Plextor 121032a....

Help !!!

I fully understand why you would prefer a 3rd party app. rather than use M$ CD Writer but I don't think you will get much benefit installing EZCD Cremator. If you do a search on exisitng posts, EZCD has probably the worst rating of all the CD Writing packages available.

Most ppl prefer Disc Juggler,, Nero or NTI - they are far more stable and produce less coasters than EZCD.

I'm not sure that the built in CD functions of XP can be removed but I'm certain other Forum members will offer more info.

Oldy....thanks...

Ok, I should use Disk Jugg....or Nero.

Will there be a conflict if I install one of these progz without deinstalling the WinXP cd writing software first?

If there is a conflict, how do I avoid it...

How do I get rid of the microsoft software?

I tried to burn a few mp3's using there software, ( and it uses teh Windowz media player to burn ) its not bad, but it refused to burn certain files to the cd....

I pulled a hard drive out of the closet that has a copy of win98, and it copied just fine on EZ cd creamator....

i just want to get away from win98....
on the main site here, under cd software, it suggests the trio of software to use for those who dont like winxp's cd writing software...

I just want to remove mocrosofts junk first so I dont get any conflicts...

probably will go with nero anyway...just want to get rid of MS stuff first !!!

How do you disable the included burning engine?

Rightclick your burner's icon in Windows Explorer and choose "properties". There you will find a tab on which you can enable/disable the embedded Roxio burning engine. This just makes the burning engine to start manually, e.g. when a program needs this utility.

To completely disable it, you have to spot the IMAPI system service under Administrative tools and set it from manual to disabled.

Here is the path...>Control panel >Administrative Tools >Component services >Local services >Imapi, double click >on the general tab >startup type, choose disabled >apply. Reboot computer. Now you can install your favorite CDR proggies without WinXP's imbedded burning engine nuking your software.

Also don't install the CDRW update from Windows Update. If you did, uninstall it through the add/remove programs menu first. Then disable per above instructions.

aimunregistrd...winxp burning software...

the group was kind enough to tell me how to remove teh winxp buring engine...

but you dont have the software at all ?
was the burner installed when xp was installed?

if it was try this:
put in a blank cd.....
then try to drag a file over to the drive letter thats your liteon...

if its all mp3's....when you right click on the drive it should say
"write files to cd"...if you say yes, it will bring up a wizard that will detect hte mp3's and ask if you want to make it a audio cd., or a data cd...

if you choose a audio cd, Windows media player will start, and it will show the tracks you selected, at that time you can then arrange them in the order of choice, and in the upper right hand corner of media player is a red record button....
thats all!

if its data, it will do a wizard to write the files form a temp. image...
by the way, the cd burning engine is provided by Roxio, ( adaptec)
so its like a stripped down version of WINONCD, without the interface...its all done out of Explorer, and it writes the files as images....but when you eject it, after closing the cd, it can play in any cd rom....
if you stick it back in the writer, and drag files to it again, it will continue to write files until its full....

I havnt done any CDRW's....on cdr's...
I see no reason to write to a cd, and then have to either write back to the hard drive or to another cdr...
cdr's are sooooo cheap, its easy to just write and close...

I am running xp pro, and I have left the xp burning enabled. It has not bothered any other burning apps that I run. I am useing WinOnCD 5.02PE, NTI CDMaker Pro, and also CDMate. None of these programs are interfeared with by the xp burning software, so I don't think you really have to disable.

Why use EZCD ??? Hmmm............

Okey ! if you are a just started a burning CD's then i understand
because EZCD is very easy to use... i started that application too, but then i realize how shit that program is ... Then i started use much, much, much better programs !!!

Test one of these goodies & choose your weapon !

Nero,Discjuggler,Vob Instant Cd/Dvd,NTI Cd Maker or CD Mate !!

;) ;) ;)

But hey !! good to hear that you give up EZCD

(Too Fast Write.. doesn't read all messages)

Built in CDR soft

I had any problem at all using third part software like Nero, Feurio or CloneCd whit the built in one provided by M$ so I didn't worry to desinstall it. About Easy Cd Creator I agree it's not the best sofware, honestly I used it last time in version 3 and when I discover NERO didn't update any more (and desinstalled) Easy CD. But of course that the "right choise" deppends of your preferences and sometimes of your burner. I like very much Nero to burn data, Feurio is the best for audio and CloneCD for replication CD. But If you use the search button you will find a lot of information about "the best software". Try them and al least "it deppends of you".
