how to re-encode avi

I have a divx 5.0 encoded avi that for some reason has developed errors.

It now won't play. It appears that the last few kb's have been corrupted/lost. Rebuilding the index does not solve the problem so I am wondering whether I can uncompress what I have, and then re-encode it without the errors.

Is this possible?
If so how would I go about doing this?

Cheers,

Kie

Uncompress it? Not likely if you can't even play it.
re-encode it without errors? I don't think so you already said that it has errors.

If however I wanted to re-encode an AVI I would use VirtualDubMod and if I wanted to resize it, crop, denoise, etc. I would do that via AVISynth.

d*mn!

I was hoping that it wold be possible. I've already tried to re-encode it with virtualdub but that threw up an error right at the bl**dy end.

:(

Oh well, need to track down another copy.

Thanks for the reply

DivXRepair does its stuff until frame 77968 of 77970!!!

Then I get a VirtualDub program failure:

Hmm.. can you load the original AVI into Nandub ? If so, in OPTIONS/PREFFERENCES/AVI tick on the box for " Ignore Errors from shitty input decompressors", turn Video to Full Processing mode, sellect compressor to be DivX5 and at a bitrate the same as original and then Save AVI. Worth a try.
