How to fit two movies onto one DVD disc

Just like to add my simple guide to fitting 2 movies onto 1 DVD, hope this helps anyone who reads it.
(With a little guidance from Chickenman, "thanks" :).

How to fit two movies onto one DVD disc.
Software tools required:
DVD Decrypter.
DVD2One.
TMPGenc DVD Author.
Your favourite burning programme, I prefer to use RecordNow Max v4.5.

1,
Put the DVD that you are going to rip into your DVD-ROM, open up DVD Decrypter, click mode, tick file, DVD Decrypter will select the main movie only, it is best to select the whole movie as DVD2One will not always work if only the Main movie and none of its support VOB files are present, in the destination directory box show DVD Decrypter where you want the files to be ripped to, then click the big Decrypt button, all the files will be ripped to that directory, you need to do this with both movies giving each movie a different directory.
……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

2,
Once the files for both movies have been ripped, start up DVD2one, show DVD2one the first movie directory (Source) then show DVD2one where you want the files to be transcoded to (Destination), I always make another folder inside the file folder called (VIDEO_TS) this must be in capitols, we will be using this folder later, change the in size MB box down to approx 2200MB, after transcoding each movie file will be approx 2.10Gb, also select in the copy mode box Movie-only.
After showing DVD2one the directory’s, click next, select the file you want to process, click next, tick the audio you want and any subtitles click start, DVD2one takes about 15 to 25 minutes to transcode the files on my PC, you need to do this with both movies.
……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

3,
Open up TMPGenc DVD author, click create new project, click add new track, right click on your 1st Untitled track, click rename, call it what your 1st movie is going to be, click on your 2nd Untitled track, click rename call it what your 2nd movie is going to be, click add DVD Video, browse to your 1st transcoded VIDEO_TS folder, in the box that pops up click next, uncheck the box copy the clip video data to the HDD, click OK, click OK again, click on the 2nd movie track, click add DVD Video, browse to your 2nd transcoded VIDEO_TS folder, in the box that pops up click next, uncheck the box copy the clip video data to the HDD, click OK, click OK again.
Click on the create menu button, on the Menu theme dropdown menu select which Menu theme you want to use, on the Firstplay action tab select Display main menu, this makes the final burnt movie go to the main menu screen so you can select which movie that you want your DVD player to play, click on the 1st movie title, you can either find a frame in the movie for the picture or you can click open file and browse to a saved Jpeg image, do this for both movies, click the output tab, browse to a folder that you want the movies authored to, make sure that create DVD folder box is checked, click begin output, TMPGenc will give you an elapsed time and a remaining time, on my PC it takes approx 20 minutes, once TMPGenc has done you can burn the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders with RecordNow Max or your favourite burning software programme.

When burning with RecordNow Max, select Data from the top menu bar, you can either drag and drop the VIDEO and AUDIO_TS folders or browse to them, the Volume label can be changed to anything you want, select the correct burning speed for your DVD media, then just click the red burning button wait untill RecordNow Max has finished.
……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

Hope this little guide helps anyone who is going to do this.

Hi barry.

I have done a few of these now and the quality has been very good, I have mostly done the Disney stuff for the kids though, last one I did was Shrek & Monsters Inc and the quality was excellent.

:) I've been try for awhile to copy multiple movies to one dvd, this seems to be the answer. THANKS!!! Will begin today, see how well it works. ;) :)

sound?

I use dvd shrink to decode my movies but when I try to use tmpeg dvd authoer it seems to want a seperate audio stream file, so does that mean I need another software program and ALSO decode the audio into a seperate file and then compile them together with tmpeg?

is there no way to make tmpeg see the sound file that is already included in the vob?

Personally I find TMPGenc DVD Author a pain in the butt when it comes to multiple tracks, etc. I find DVDLab (or Maestro) to be substantially easier there and problem free. DVDLab will import VOB files while Maestro would need those Demuxed to individual streams first (Smartripper can do that for your). I recommend TDA for authoring simple AVI convsions to DVDR, anything more complex, use either of the other 2 I suggested.

yeha but the problem with dvd lab is that it wont let me use 16:9 and 4:3 videos together. With TMPEG u can just 2 "tracks" and one can be 16:9 while the other 4:3

is there a work around for this on dvd lab?

cheers

Hmm... I've never tried various aspect ratio movies in DVDLab, they are always the same. Maestro will accept any aspectratio for each slip, only restriction, they must ALL be NTSc or ALL PAL.

DVD lab is great, Im using the demo right now. THe aspect ratio isnt that big of a problem soem of teh videos jsut got a bit stretched but that is easy to remedy.. now my NEW problem is I dont have sound when I play it in the DVD player but when I play it on the computer I do. I tried 3 different DVD plaeyrs by the way NOT including my computer.

That is just the ODDEST thing in the world, it works on the computer but the osund is not there on ANY of my dvd players.. go figure.. oh well Ill keep on experimenting

cheers

Then I suggest there is a problem with the AC3 audio. Do you know how the original AC3 was generated ? BeSweet AC3 conversions can have playback problems on many DVD Players, particularly Pioneer, Phillips, etc.

Run the AC3 audio file through BeSliced/BeSplit to fix the AC3.

the sound was just a freak occurance!! every dvd after the first one worked how odd, eh?

non-the-less THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

this software is amazing!

DVDLab

Putting 2 dvd on one is a great idea i got greedy and tried to put 3 on one. Im using dvd decrypt and dvd2one and DVD Lab, when i try to demux the second vob file (around 350mb) through importing it into the asset bin i get the message
---> cause: Not a 11172-2 or 13818-2 video stream
---> If this is a capture from tv it may have missing/wrong header
---> Please go to the tools and try fix Stream Headers on the file.
i tried fixing it through the fix stream but it didnt do anything. What is the best demuxing program for seperating audio and video from a vob file, to import straight into dvdLab,

I tend to use VStrip to demux VOB sets or individual VOB's but its not the easiest program to use.

Wombles MPEG-VCR is great for individual VOB or MPG files, works very well and can handle AC3 streams no probs. Demo is at www.womble.com

DVDLab

thanks heaps chickenman, i made my first dvd with dvdlab, however when i played it on my playstation 2 it was gerky and the picture was all over the place, i put one ntsc movie and 2 pal movies on the one dvd, maybe that is the problem or it could just be the dvdlab. any other Authoring programs that will let me use motion menus and support PAL and NTSC on one disk. would really appriciate it.

PS2's are very picky with regards to actual media. Try some different media. How does it play on your PC ?

I was not aware DVDLab would allow you to mix NTSC and PAL streams within the one DVD, just remember that is NOT dvd compliant. I'm not aware of any that can put the 2 types onto the one dvd, to be honest.

i checked it on the computer and it worked fine, funny that, i suppose i should have tried that in the first place. thanks for pointing that out.

I have found that dvd lab does support both PAL and NTSC it is the only one i know that does,

what do mean dvd compliant? is that something that will not work in all dvd players?
